Experience
I have given an over view of the roles that I have undertaken, however some of the
roles entailed some sensitive duties, details of which I would be happy to discuss
further.
March 2007 to
Date
MRB Consultants
Independent Security Consultant
I have consulted into a wide variety of organisations including Solicitors,
Accountants, Business owners and other larger security consultancies. The issues
consulted on have been varied but have generally been of a covert investigative
nature, which have deployed conventional and digital measures.
Nov 2004 to
March 2007
Global Computer Security
Forensics and IT Security Manager
The role is managing a small team of highly qualified individuals investigating
offences that have taken place using computers. The majority of the offences are
against organisation’s intellectual property rights, and includes copyright offences,
leaking of company information, and organisational sabotage. As an examiner I have
conducted computer based investigations into Intellectual Property for Trade
Associations including the British Phonographic Industry (music industry), Federation
against Copyright Theft (film industry), ELSPA (software industry), and many other
national and international companies including NTL, Walt Disney, Rolex, and
Tiffany’s. Working closely on behalf of these companies and organisations I have
liaised very closely with law enforcement including Police, Trading Standards, and
their legal partners. I have conducted the largest investigation of its kind into a
considerable conspiracy to defraud on behalf of the Trade Associations, in which
prosecutions have been brought against twelve individuals. The case has recently been
concluded with all defendants pleading guilty prior to trial.
Dec 2001 to
Nov 2004
Staffordshire Police, Economic Crime Unit - Hi-tech Crime
Unit
Detective Constable - Network Investigator
As a part of the Economic Crime Unit I provided a point of contact, both internally
and externally, for advice and training on hi-tech crime investigation and prevention,
based on physical and logical security. The advice may have taken the form of
presentations and by directly liaising with professional bodies and companies, often at
board level. Internally I provided investigative support to other members of the Unit
and Investigators across the Force. The support was to assist investigators with
aspects of the investigation where the crime was committed either on a computer or a
computer is used to store data which may be used as evidence. The types of
investigations included major fraud, paedophilia and major incidents which require
sensitive handling and results to specific time constraints, due to their serious and
often complex nature. The support entailed forensic computing and the investigation
of digital evidence, including large networks using, covert and overt, conventional
and hi-tech techniques.
Feb 1996 to
Dec 2001
Staffordshire Police, Stafford, Staffordshire
Police Officer
I gained a wide range of experience in Covert, overt, pro-active and reactive policing
including drugs, possession and supply, fraud, and general crime. In addition I gained
an expanse of skills and experience to aid and compliment investigations, some
sensitive skills, but others include informant handling, optical evidence gathering, and
public order control.
