First, the compositions of the reaction mixtures dictate the nature of the primary building units from which the compounds are formed. These compositions are affected by both solution properties (pH) and relative concentrations. Second, charge density matching between the cationic and anionic components directly affects the way in which the primary building units form larger secondary building units. Third, weaker interactions, including hydrogen-bonding, sterics and symmetry all affect the resulting structure. Finally, a machine learning approach to improve the reactions from which these compounds are synthesized will be discussed.
