OPERATIONS CODES
For ILWU Agreement occupation codes: Submit hours paid at ILWU agreement occupation codes; e.g. mechanic,
sweeper, lines, vessel planner, grain, watchmen, and guarantee using one of the operations codes listed under SPECIAL
CATEGORIES. If a special category does not exist, submit hours using one of the operations codes listed under VESSEL,
YARD, GATE, AND RAIL DESIGNATION.
VESSEL, YARD, GATE, AND RAIL DESIGNATION
00 = Vessel Operations – Operations against or on a vessel; i.e. load or discharge or cargo.
10 = Yard Operations – Operations carried out in the yard; e.g. loading and unloading trucks.
20 = Gate Operations – General operations at the gate.
30 = Rail Ops On/Near Dock – Load and discharge of rail cars.
SPECIAL CATEGORIES
40 = Container Freight Station – Used for CFS occupation code.
70 = ILWU Mechanics and Gearmen – Hours paid at mechanic, gear, sweeper, and janitorial occupation codes.
Includes ILWU mechanics paid under non-PMA agreements. Includes all POL specific occupation codes except
0693. Excludes IAM mechanics.
92 = Lines Handling – Lines handling hours. Used for lines handling occupation codes and lines dispatcher
occupation codes.
93 = Vessel Planners – Used for vessel planner occupation codes.
94 = Grain Elevator Operations – Grain elevator operations including hours paid against the vessel.
95 = Watchmen and Guards – Hours paid at watchmen occupations code.
98 = All Guarantee Payments – Guarantee payments; e.g. crane guarantee and clerk work opportunity guarantee.
For Non-ILWU Agreement occupation codes: Submit hours paid at all non-ILWU agreements occupation codes using
operations code 96.
NON-ILWU OCCUPATION CODES
96 = Non-ILWU Agreements – Hours paid at non-ILWU occupations codes; i.e. IAM mechanics and occupation
codes 0693, 731 and 753.
For Use by PMA Only – Hours paid by PMA companies (e.g. the training company, the PGP company, the vacation
company) and occasional training and dispatcher payments made by PMA Member companies.
81 = PMA Accident Prevention Dept (PMA Only) – Hours paid by the PMA Accident Prevention Department.
82 = Joint Labor Relations Committee (PMA Only) – Hours paid by the Joint Labor Relations Committee.
83 = PMA Training Dept. (PMA Only) – Hours paid by the PMA Training Department.
85 = Hours Credits (PMA Only) – Credited hours and miscellaneous payments; e.g. USERRA, hours credited
using occ code CRED, and payments using occ codes LTGN and SHOE.
89 = PMA Benefits (PMA Only) – Benefits and pay direct hours; e.g. PGP, holiday pay, vacation and pay directs.

CARGO CATEGORY CODES
A = Automobiles and Trucks
B = Bulk Cargo
G = General Cargo
L = Logs and Lumber
C = Containerized Cargo
N = Non Cargo Handling
VESSEL NUMBER AND NAMES
Source is Lloyd’s list
Vessel Number must be seven digits
If a vessel number is entered, the vessel name must be completed
“P” numbers are assigned by PMA for barges not in the Lloyds list
If a number is not available in the download file, type in ‘UNKNOWN’
A vessel number or UNKNOWN and a vessel name must be entered for all vessel hours submitted using
operations code 00.
For all non-vessel hours, enter ‘9999999’ as the vessel number and leave the vessel name blank. An exception
applies to lines, vessel planner, and grain operations. A vessel number and name may be entered when using
operations codes 92, 93 and 94, but is not required. Vessel numbers may not be entered for yard, gate, and rail
(operations codes 10, 20, and 30).
