Ancient Greek Krater Objective Students must be able to identify a relatable story from selected pottery in the following categories: subject matter, name, class, and use. Students will watch a video describing said piece to gain information they have not yet attained. Students will create their own pottery and decorate it with a significance that is widely understood by American’s or the world. Materials/ Resources A picture reference of the Mixing Vessel “Odysseus Escaping the Cyclops’ Cave Informative video of said mixing vessel.1 Moldable clay Paint Paintbrushes Water Lecture/ Demonstration 1. We will go over the different vessels and their names – going into the vessel’s individual characteristics, including: subject matter, name, class, and use. 2. Students will be given a chance to study the mixing vessel. 3. As a class we will discuss what students have learned about the piece. 4. We will watch a seven minute clip about the mixing vessel and take further notes as necessary. Studio Assignment Students will create their own krater with clay and decorate it with a story or brief history as the Greeks would. 1 Movie found on Khan Academy website.
