Understanding grades on Parent Access Parent Access/ Student Access allows a family to see grades within 24 hours of being input into the system. It is a beneficial tool to monitor and track your child’s progress. However, there are a few important things all users should know to better understand the system. Below is a key you can use to decode the grades. A: Stands for student was absent and it equals to “an actual zero.” It means that the student was absent the day the assignment was given. Until the assignment is completed, it will average into the grade as a zero. If the assignment is turned in, the grade earned will replace the Z. If the assignment is not turned in, it will continue to average in the grade as a zero. Z: Stands for zero until completed and it is a “working zero.” It means the student was either absent when the assignment was given or turned in to the teacher. Until the assignment is completed, it will average into the grade as a zero. If the assignment is turned in, the grade earned will replace the Z. If the assignment is not turned in, it will continue to average in the grade as a zero. X: Stands for exempt from assignment and it is a “no grade.” This is used for an assignment that was not turned in when it was due. The teacher deemed the assignment not essential for the student’s success in the class. An X does not count for or against the student’s average. HP: Stands for Homework Pass and it equals to a 100. In some classes, not all, students are given a homework pass. TC: Stands for Test Corrections and the value assigned is a 70. In some cases, a teacher may assign students to make test correction. Upon completion of the assigned corrections, a teacher may assign a TC for the student’s efforts. -: A dash is used for an assignment that has not been turned in or graded. The teacher has an upcoming assignment that will be entered for a grade, but no grade has been received yet. Grading System: The following is the breakdown of Knox’s grading system.
