Student Activities Lead Desk Assistant Job Description Definition and Purpose The Student Activities Desk on the 2nd floor of the new Student Center will serve as the epicenter for involvement and activities for the entire SSU student body. The desk will serve to help students with questions and getting involved with the Associated Students (including ASP, JUMP & Student Government), Campus Life, chartered student organizations, greek life, club accounts and the HUB. Under the supervision of the AS Executive Director, the Senior Student Activities Desk Assistant for the Associated Students (AS) performs duties associated with the assisting students as they navigate their involvement, get answers to questions, oversee the student staff and find direction for the offices contained in the center. Educational and Qualifying Experience Must be a currently enrolled student at Sonoma State University. All AS staff must have a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.0. Previous leadership experience on campus is essential. Ability to schedule multiple staff. Ability to hold fellow students accountable to policies, procedures and expectations of their position. Ability to train students on on-going changes and updates to policy and procedure. Ability to think and act creatively. Ability to perform multiple tasks. Created 3/13 Essential Duties and Responsibilities Supervise the day to day functions of the Student Activities desk in concert with the AS Executive Director. Schedule desk assistant’s shifts and hold staff accountable for attendance and performance. Conduct regular staff meetings and in-service trainings. Schedule use of Student Activities Center conference room. Serve as the primary reception person for all offices contained in the Student Activities Center (Associated Students, Campus Life & the HUB). Answer phones and take messages for offices, staff and officers contained in the Student Activities Center. Provide information to students about upcoming events, activities and programs. Provide information to students about ways to get involved, including AS programs, chartered student organizations & campus wide events and programs. Assist student organizations with chartering and registration processes. Provide information to students and student groups in conducting business with the University, including reserving rooms, reserving services, financial transactions, etc. Provide information to students about their club accounts. Record deposits for all chartered student organizations accounts. Distribute checks and financial documents to students. Provide assistance to professional staff of Associated Students, Campus Life & the HUB. Period of Employment Employment with this organization is of an "at will" nature, which means that the employee may resign at any time with two weeks notice or the Associated Students may immediately discharge the employee at any time with or without cause. Potential employees must be willing to commit to the position through May 15th, 2015. Summer hours and academic breaks are negotiable. Compensation and Hours Must be available to work 20 hours per week during normal operating hours of Associated Students. The Senior Desk Assistant’s schedule is based on the open hours of the Student Activities Desk, successful candidates will have a class schedule that allows them to work consistently in the needed hours of the desk. The position is classified as a Student Assistant III. Minimum range starting at $10.75 per hour Maximum of 20 hours per week. No benefits. Pay (step) increases are designed to recognize and reward satisfactory work performance. Satisfactory work performance will be based on performance evaluations.
