April 13, 2010 Dear Hiring Manager: I was excited to see that the Senior Writer position in the public affairs department at Brigham and Women’s Hospital is open. As a health communications professional with a background in public relations and newspaper editing, I am an ideal candidate for the position. I most recently worked as a senior account executive at a large public relations agency in Boston. My accounts ranged from consumer products to companies in the medical technology and health benefits industries. I also had the opportunity to work with the public affairs departments of several hospitals, local and national. I am passionate about journalism, particularly in a healthcare setting. Prior to working in public relations, I spent a year and a half as a copy editor at a daily newspaper in Colorado, and before that as a public affairs intern at National Jewish Medical and Research Center in Denver. I enjoy every step of putting together publications, from brainstorming story ideas to interviewing patients and hospital employees, to writing, editing, and laying out the finished product. I work well under pressure – in fact, I thrive on deadlines – and I am also an AP Style aficionado. I take pride in my work, and love the satisfaction of a job well done. I look forward to hearing from you, and would welcome the opportunity to tell you more about what I can bring to the job. Regards, Candidate Name
