Green Energy & Water Supply in Island Regions (GE-WIR) Island of Tilos Prefecture of Dodecanese Aegean Archipelagos – Greece, September 5, 2015 Organized by the Soft Energy Applications & Environmental Protection Lab of the Piraeus University of Applied Sciences and supported by the European Union and the Greek Ministry of Education through the Excellence II research framework Call for Abstracts Organized by the Piraeus University of Applied Sciences, the GE-WIR Symposium aims to designate energy and water supply issues encountered in island regions and to elaborate on potential solutions. Special emphasis is given to this end to the investigation of integrated schemes including renewable energy sources, energy storage and desalination, allowing for the simultaneous treatment of energy and water supply problems and offering a set of sustainable solutions compatible with the special needs of isolated island regions. The focus is given on remote, small and medium scale island regions, exposed to insecurity of supply and extreme costs of electricity and water use, reflected also in the case of Tilos island where the GE-WIR Symposium will take place. Guidelines for Submission Topics include but are not limited to Participation to the symposium is free of charge Representative islands’ energy and water status Transportation expenses are covered by the participant Use of desalination in arid island regions 250 word abstract in English shall be submitted electronically Use of RES in island regions The role of energy storage in island regions Hybrid energy solutions based on RES Authors must indicate what format they wish to present in Smart metering and energy saving Final papers must be submitted in MS Word using the provided symposium template Demand side management (DSM) in island regions Final presentations are allowed to use different ppt templates Integrated schemes of RES, energy storage, DSM and desalination Submissions Submit your abstract to the Symposium Committee via email (sealab@gdias.teipir.gr) in MS Word format Deadlines Abstracts due July 1, 2015 Draft paper due July 20, 2015 Notification of acceptance and comments August 10, 2015 Final Submission due August 25, 2015 A full author information package concerning the venue, along with abstract and paper templates can be found at: www.sealab.gr Venue Information Tilos Island Livadia, 850 02, GR Conference Center – Ilidi Hotel Telephone: +30 22460 44293 FAX: +30 22460 & 44238 info@tilosholidays.gr http://www.tilosholidays.gr/ For additional information and support on travel arrangements, please contact: Dimitrios Zafirakis +30 210 5381580 dzaf@teipir.gr Green Energy & Water Supply in Island Regions The GE-WIR Symposium extends an open invitation for the submission of abstracts for presentations and papers.
