Position Title:
Director of Education
Reports To:
Executive Director and Associate Executive Director

Basic Function:
To plan, analyze, and arrange implementation of all activities
associated with The Arts Center
Position Summary
Day to day activities of the Director of Education include developing arts education programs,
scheduling classes and hiring class instructors. This person will also serve as a liaison with the
various members of the educational community and will promote arts education in the
community, and coordinate The Foundation’s Educational Enrichment Series. This person is
responsible for overseeing (and delegating, when possible) the day to day activities of The Arts
Center, which includes registering students, accounting for all tuition, record keeping of
scholarships and student registrations. This person is responsible for working with the Executive
Director and recommending tuition rates. The Director of Education would also be expected to
solve problems and serve as a mediator with teachers, students and parents. This person would be
expected to manage many details and competing interests associated with The Arts Center.
Training and Education Background
A BA in an arts discipline or BSE in education is preferred, but extensive experience in teaching,
arts education, and arts programming is acceptable. Management experience in finance,
budgeting, scheduling, conflict resolution, and problem solving is required. Required experience
would include a background in the following; working with fine arts, volunteer or special needs
organizations, dealing with the public, particularly children and the parents of children. Other
helpful work experience might include working with fine arts or a non-profit organization, and
working with the public.
Functions and Responsibilities
I. PERSONNEL
 Maintain a positive, professional working relationship with the entire administrative
and support Staff
 Recruit, hire, and supervise all classroom instructors
 Abide by all written policies as indicated in The Foundation of Arts employee
manual
.
II. PROGRAMS
 Interview and hire instructors for Arts Center Program
 Schedule classes and coordinate instructors
 Manage the Tuition Waiver program (assist with screening applicants, approve/deny
applications, etc.)
 Create teacher contracts
 Coordinate with Outreach Coordinator on the Educational Enrichment Series (create
educational packets and assist with reservations)
 Manage the Teacher Assistant Program (TAP)
 Manage and oversee all associate programs, activities, events, and people involved in
The Arts Center
III. PLANNING
 Develop arts education curriculum
 Collaborate with Executive Director to develop a planning calendar, avoiding
(wherever possible) conflicts with other civic and institutional organizations (i.e.
ASU)
 Network with other arts programs for the purpose of FOA improvement.
 Research new art programs
IV. REPORTING
 Provide details of
to Executive Director for inclusion in
Administrative Report for Board of Directors
V. FINANCE
 Oversee the accounts receivable for The Arts Center, which includes recommending
tuition rates to the Executive Director and Board of Directors, issuing statements,
and tracking student accounts.
 Register students
 Assist with all fund raising projects that benefit TAC directly, and at least one fund
raising project for The Foundation of Arts in general
 Produce financial reports associated with The Arts Center
 Attend grant reviews as necessary
 Research and assist with ways to secure funding for existing and new programs
 Manage the accounts receivable software (QuickBooks)
VI. PUBLIC RELATIONS
 TAC Photographer
 Attend community meetings and events (i.e. Downtown Jonesboro Association,
CDBG, Arkansas Arts Council, FSS, Chamber of Commerce etc.).
 Collaborate with the local schools in the capacity of consultant or program liaison.
 Speak as FOA representative with civic clubs, career day, teacher in-service etc.
 Arrange TAC Open Houses
 Arrange Spring Showcase
VI. OTHER
 Serve as FOA representative as needed
 Problem solving with teachers, parents, and students
 Layout and design brochures (Fall, Spring, Summer)

Answer inquiries and resolve complaints about The Arts Center
Attend staff meeting weekly
Attend and report at monthly board meeting
Other appropriate duties as defined/assigned by Executive Director
