MAJOR REQUIREMENTS FOR THE B.A. DEGREE IN POLITICAL SCIENCE (2015-2016)
A. GENERAL EDUCATION: Political Science offers a Bachelors of Arts degree, and thus students should
follow the GE requirements for the B.A. If you have any questions regarding GE requirements, you should
contact the Office of Advising and Evaluations, Student Services West 1551.
B. PREPARATION FOR THE MAJOR. 12 units.

Political Science 101
2.
Political Science 102
3.
Political Science 103 or 104
4.
Statistics or Logic: Political Science 201 or
equivalent: Statistics 119, Statistics 250,
Economics 201, Sociology 201, Psychology
280, or Logic: Philosophy 120
In order to move from premajor to major status, students must complete all four of the above courses with a
“C” or better, have a cumulative GPA of 2.4 or higher, and complete a minimum of 30 semester units.
C. UPPER DIVISION POLITICAL SCIENCE. 27 units
1. One 3-unit course in each of the following four fields (12 units):
Political Theory (Field I): ______________________________________________.
American Politics (Field II): ____________________________________________.
Comparative Politics (Field III): _________________________________________.

2. Four additional upper division Political Science courses (12 units).*

Washington Semester (PS 498), 12 units total, 6 to major.
or
Any 500-level Political Science course ___________________ (except 516).
*Students have an option of using six units from the following courses as upper-division major electives:
WMNST 375, AMIND 485, AFRAS 321, or AFRAS 322.
