Geometry Scrapbook During the next week you will create a geometry scrapbook. The scrapbook will contain specific items as described below. The items will be pictures cut from magazines, newspapers, advertisements, commercial packaging, or (for less credit) freehand sketches. Items should be taped or glued neatly, and labeled as requested. Your scrapbook should be stapled together or placed in a report binder. Cover: Your name, a title, and a geometric design that you construct. Page 1: A Triangle Measure and record the length of all 3 sides and the degree measure of each angle of the triangle. A Rectangle Measure and record the length of all 4 sides and the length of a diagonal of the rectangle. 9 points Page 2: Parallel Lines Find parallel lines that demonstrate function versus design. For example, railroad tracks must be parallel. Explain the function of the parallel lines in your photo. 4 points Page 3: Congruent Shapes Find congruent shapes that are not triangular. For example, a pair of socks. Explain what would happen if the shapes were similar instead of congruent. 4 points Page 4: Symmetric Logos Find 3 different logos which contain rotational or line symmetry. Describe the symmetry of each. 15 points 10 points Page 5: Solids Find and label a sphere, cylinder, pyramid, cone, and prism. 15 points Page 6: Geometric Sample Find a photo of something that you think relates to geometry. Explain what you think the connection is to geometry. 18 points Rubric for Geometry Scrapbook Name______________________________________ Block___________ Cover: Name (2 points) __________ Title (2 points) __________ Geometric Design (5 points) __________ Page 1 Triangle (2 points) Measurement of Sides (3 points) Degree Measure of Angles (3 points) __________ __________ __________ Rectangle (2 points) Measurement of Sides (4 points) Measurement of Diagonal (1 point) __________ __________ __________ Page 2 Parallel Lines (2 points) Function of Parallel Lines (2 points) __________ __________ Page 3 Non-Triangular Congruent Shapes (2 points) Explanation (2 points) ___________ ___________ Page 4 Three symmetric Logos (6 points) Rotational Symmetry (2 points) Line Symmetry (2 points) ___________ ___________ ___________ Page 5 Sphere (3 points) Cylinder (3 points) Pyramid (3 points) Cone (3 points) Prism (3 points) ___________ ___________ ___________ ___________ ___________ Page 6 Photo (2 points) Connection to Geometry (2 points) Neatness (7 points) On Time (7 points) Total Points Possible 75 Your Score ___________ ___________ ___________ ___________ ___________
