THIS WEEK’S ACTIVITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE
The Adult Sunday School Class meets in the Fellowship Hall at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday mornings. During November
and December we will be studying “How Lutherans Interpret the Bible”. The first class on November 3rd will cover The
Word of God. Come join us…and bring a friend or two. More information will be available in the November
Messenger.
There will be a New Sound Board Training Session on Sunday, November 3rd at 12:00 noon. This training session
is for anyone interested in learning the new sound board. All current audio persons and anyone interested in becoming
an audio operator should attend. The training session should only last about an hour. Please contact Brian Berg at
(989)326-2859 if you have any questions.
Prayer Wall: We have a Prayer Wall outside of the Sanctuary. You may be thinking "What is a Prayer Wall?" The
Prayer Wall is a place for you to simply write your prayers down and post them on the board or stop by, take a minute
and pray for those in need. Please take a moment to check it out. These prayers are not added to the prayer chain.
"HELP WANTED": The various boards and committees of the church need help from time to time with a task,
activity or event. Maybe you cannot commit the time for 2 years to a board, but could help out with a single task or
activity. This is our chance to pair these two groups of people together. If you have a task or activity that you need help
with, post it under the "HELP WANTED" sign, include the task, a "need done by" date (if applicable) and the name and
phone # the volunteer should contact with questions. If you can help out with that task or activity, follow the
instructions on the card or contact the person who needs the help.
Facebook Update: Did you know that Bob Aldrich, Chris Crump, Lisa Whelton, Michelle Wardlow, Brian Berg and
Pastor Julie all have Administrative access on Ascension's Facebook page. If you are having an event, whether it be a
one-time event or a regular monthly/weekly event, please feel free to ask any of these Administrators to publish the
information for you. Social media continues to thrive and reach out to many of our parishioners and friends of friends.
Please "like" our page: Ascension Lutheran Church of Saginaw, MI (ELCA).
Third quarter giving statements are available at the Welcome Center. Please stop by and pick up yours today.
Pharmacy Discount Cards are available on the Welcome Center. This card can save up to 75% on all FDA
approved drugs. This is not insurance. If you or someone you know is paying full price for medications, pick up a
discount card. I understand that Meijer does not accept the card but Walgreens and many other pharmacies honor the
card which can save you money. Just give the pharmacist the card and ask for discounts on your prescription drugs. For
more information, see the back of the card for website and phone number.
Labels for Education: You can help Ascension earn free classroom supplies simply by collecting Campbell UPCs and
bringing them in. Please look for the Labels for Education boxes located in the Gathering Area. If you have any
questions please contact Jennifer Dickie at 781-2170.
Earn Free Money for Ascension through the Meijer Community Rewards program. Check out the Kiosk in the
Gathering Area for more information!
Attendance Cards: Please fill out an attendance card located in the slots in the pews. They will be collected during the
offering.
UPCOMING ACTIVITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE
Gathering and Fellowship at Gabby’s: Join family and friends at Gabby’s Bar and Grill on Monday, November 4th
from 5:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. for a night of good food and fellowship. Come when you are able...all are welcome. Please
see the sign-up sheet on the Kiosk in the Gathering Area.
Ascension’s Sewing Group will be meeting in the Fellowship Hall on Wednesday, November 6th from 9:00 a.m. 12:00 noon to work on a community service project. Contact Sandy Graham at 781-1619 or Ruth Schomaker at 7814191 with any questions.
Breaking the Mold Training Workshop: There is a training workshop being offered to equip adults working with
youth and young adults. It will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mount Pleasant on November 9th from 9:00
a.m. - 3:00 p.m. The event is free but registration required by November 4th. Email Pastor Sue Hand at
hands@charter.net or call (989)859-4491. A brochure with further information is available on the Kiosk.
A Noisy Offering will be held on Sunday, November 10th and Wednesday, November 13th to help provide for the
Health for Life Project for Honduras: As members of the Honduras Mission Team, we are asking our congregation to
reach out and support our Synod’s companion ministry with the Lutheran Church in Honduras in a specific way. Your
offerings, a real blessing, will be used to purchase toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc. in Honduras. Bring the change from
your pockets, drawers or places where you keep your spare change for the offering to “change” a life. Any paper money
or a check (made out to Ascension, indicating “Honduras”) would be most appreciated as well. God bless your gifts! If
you have any questions please contact Bill or Sara Gregor, members of the Honduras Health for Life Mission Team.
What is up with the Youth Room? With the help of some generous contributions of time and funds from members of
the congregation and our Trustees, along with the grant from the Endowment Committee, we have begun a re-vamping
of our current room. We are adding a breakfast bar, a mini refrigerator, a large screen TV and a new DVD player in an
effort to make the room more user-friendly for both our youth and adult facilitators. So feel free to stop by any Sunday
and see the exciting new things happening inside the Youth Room. And trust me when I say all the exciting things are
not contained in the furnishings. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Bob at 781-4714.

Ascension’s Communications Practices and Policies
Ascension has been increasing our written outreach through the use of Facebook, newly updated website, updated
content on the overhead screen during services, video of sermons and advertisements for various events. This has
allowed us to now include photos and video in these communications. If you prefer to not have your photo used in
Ascension’s communications, please fill out a Photo Privacy form located at the Welcome Center and leave it in the
Church Office. If you wish to ensure that you do not appear in the sermon videos, please choose a seat in the side
sections or in the back half of the center sections. If you have questions please contact Pastor Julie, Chris or John.
Attention all High School Students and Parents: The LYO wants to update a contact list for all of you. Please send
your current address, phone number, and email address to Jeff Whelton at jcwhelton@gmail.com. Thank you!
