Magenta Research launches plug-in CAT5 receiver for Pioneer
plasma displays
Pioneer panels can now be placed 1000 feet (305 meters) from video source
Brookfield, Conn., October 20, 2004 –
Magenta Research, manufacturer of the dynamic signage industry’s highest-performance video-over-CAT5 distribution
systems, introduced a long-distance CAT5 / UTP receiver for Pioneer plasma display panels, at the Digital Retailing Expo
held earlier this month in San Francisco.
The new high-resolution CAT5 receiver, the MultiView AK1000P, may be plugged into the expansion slot of the 43” and
50” Pioneer models PDP-504, PDP-50, PDP-434 and PDP-43. The MultiView AK1000P permits the Pioneer plasma
display panels to interface directly with Magenta’s MultiView transmitters, distribution and switching gear, enabling them to
be located 1000 feet (305 meters) away from the video source. Maximum resolution at 1000 feet is a specified 1920 x
1440 @ 70Hz refresh (display-dependent), ensuring compatibility with current and future displays as resolution increases.
Two to twelve plasma panels may be daisy-chained using the included auxiliary RJ-45 jack (see “Link Out” in product
photo). Rather than having to associate every CAT5 receiver to a CAT5 transmitter, the chaining feature saves cabling,
installation and hardware costs by allowing up to twelve receivers to be associated with one transmitter. Another
advantage is that the displays at each receiver will be synchronous, important when multiple displays are in sight at the
same time.
THE MULTIVIEW™ AK1000P EXPANSION SLOT RECEIVER
Magenta’s AkuCompīƒ¤ integrated skew compensation module is an option for the AK1000P expansion slot receiver. In
cases where the inherent color skew is noticeable on the display (typically at distances longer than 400 to 500 feet of
CAT5), the AkuComp feature allows the user to simply and accurately compensate on the receiver, using a set of timing
dipswitches and a convenient test pattern. No adjustments are made at the source end.
A user requirement now addressed by Magenta’s MultiView Series is IP (Internet Protocol) control of the plasma display
panels. The MultiView UTx IP Universal Transmitter converts IP to Magenta’s serial protocol, then transmits the signal
over the CAT5 / UTP cable to the AK1000P.
Magenta Research has introduced several new CAT5 video distribution products in 2004. Others have been the
MultiView Matrix 16x16 CAT5 switcher, the MultiView 9D 1x9 CAT5 distribution amplifier, the MultiView J8 portaddressable 1x8 for the courtroom environment and the MultiView PCI card-based CAT5 transmitter. The combination of
the MultiView PCI transmitter and AK1000P receiver in the Pioneer expansion slot provides “box-free” video, plus audio or
serial, signal distribution.
Randy Young, Director of Marketing and Business Development at Magenta Research, commented: “We’ve been working
closely with Pioneer to develop the optimum solution for ‘direct-in’ UTP for any number of their 43” and 50” displays. The
MultiView AK1000P design will give Pioneer customers the ability to conveniently remote any number of displays,
showing any video at any resolution, using cost-effective CAT5 / UTP cable. Magenta is honored to be selected for
Pioneer’s PDP ‘Expansion Solutions’ program and we look forward to serving Pioneer’s customers.”
