MaryAnn Camilleri, Founder and Executive Director, The Magenta Foundation
In 2004, following a ten-year period in New York City working in the visual arts publishing industry, MaryAnn
Camilleri determined that she would apply her professional experience toward establishing a visual arts publishing
enterprise in her home country of Canada.
Once settled in Toronto, MaryAnn began to develop the ideas that would result in her first independent projects,
Flash Forward 05, an international emerging photographers competition; and Carte Blanche Vol.1: Photography, a
survey of the state of contemporary Canadian photography. With these bold accomplishments in place, The
Magenta Foundation was born.
Through The Magenta Foundation, MaryAnn creates publications and exhibitions with an international appeal. By
cultivating alliances with like-minded individuals and organizations, MaryAnn continues to develop a global network
of contacts, enabling her to bring international contemporary art to Canadian audiences and Canadian-made
contemporary art to international audiences.
Known and respected for her commitment to providing a platform for emerging talent with her Flash Forward
program and to increasing the profile of under-documented established artists.
The Magenta Foundation
Established in 2004, The Magenta Foundation is home to Magenta Publishing for the Arts, Canada’s pioneering
non-profit arts publishing house. Launched with a mandate to champion Canadian artists in the context of their
international peers, Magenta has grown rapidly and remains dedicated to increasing Canada’s visual arts profile
around the world.
