Class Policies and Procedures
A.
Ms. Smith
Santa Fe High School
Note from the instructor- I will lead a respectful and disciplined classroom. To achieve this I have
established a few simple policies. As a student, it is your responsibility to comply with these policies. If you
decided not to comply, there will be logical consequences. By enforcing these policies, I promise to you
fairness and order in our classroom.
B. Class Rules
Be Ready
Come to class on time, prepared to learn, with your necessary supplies.
Be Responsible
Keep track of your assignments and due dates. 1 class copy will be given, after that points will be deducted. Be
familiar with policies outlined in the student planner.
Be Respectful
Be respectful of yourself, your teacher, your classmates, and any property around you.
C. If YOU CHOOSE to Break a Rule:
Punishments will always fit the crime. Of course there are behaviors that will warrant a Principal’s Referral
immediately. Examples of this include defiance or violent behavior. Behaviors that are less severe, but in
violation of the basic rules of the class will be dealt with in the manner below. This format is in no way all
inclusive and is subject to change or occur in any order:
1st Incident- Verbal Warning
2nd Incident- Seat Change
3rd Incident- Teacher/Student Conference
4th Incident- Principal’s referral and communication home
D. Beginning of Class/Entrance to Class
Make sure you have all necessary materials for the class. You are to enter the classroom without screaming,
running or otherwise causing a ruckus. Students who do not do this will be asked to leave the room and reenter
as expected. You should then get anything you need around the room (grade check, pencil sharpening, tissue,
etc.). Once seated, check the board for the day’s bellwork and the day’s assignment (write it down so you don’t
forget). You can also use this time to briefly speak with me or get a study period pass.
E. Setting Up Your Paper
Every paper handed in for this class must include the following:
First and Last Name
Class Block
Date
F. Bellwork
Everyday will begin with bell work. You will find the bellwork on the board or your desk. Bellwork should be
started before the bell rings. Most bell work will involve answering a question or completing a sentence.
Bellwork is required and will be kept in your notebook on one piece of paper, one right after the other. Each
bellwork is worth 5 points and will be collected randomly. To get full points you need to write the date and
restate the bellwork question within your answer.
G. Handing In Work
Homework and assignments carried over from the last class period are due at the beginning of the hour, unless I
tell you otherwise. Assignments must be complete and correct. Place assignments in the stacker labeled with
your class’s hour. If you arrive late and handing in the homework will cause a distraction, sign-in, go to your seat,
and raise your hand when it is appropriate to do so.
Late work credit will be as follows:
90%-same day 75%-1 day
50%-2 days
25%-3 days
0%-4 days
Late work will not be accepted after the end of the unit of study. There will be a 15-point deduction from your
score if you have to be given an additional copy of any assignment.
Pink Slip: Everyone must hand something in on the assignment due date. If you have not completed the
assignment, you will need to fill out a pink slip and hand that in.
H. Tardies and Late Arrivals
A student who is not in the classroom when the bell sounds, is considered either late or tardy. A student is tardy
if he is without a pass after the bell. A student is late if he arrives with a pass after the bell. Tardy and Late
students need to sign-in at the clipboard by the door, and are not to disrupt the class. Late students need to pin
their pass to the clipboard. There is no penalty for arriving late with a pass. See student planner for tardy
consequences.
I. End of Class (Quality Standard for Dismissal):
The bell does not dismiss the class, I do. Do not pack up until I dismiss the class. Do not leave your seats until I
dismiss the class. To be dismissed, please be in your assigned seat, quiet, and make sure the area around you is
clean. When you get up to leave, make sure your seats are pushed in.
J. When You Are Absent
If a student has an excused absence from class he or she is responsible for the bellwork, assignments, and
homework that he/she missed. The student has as many days as he or she was absent to make up the
assignments. It is up to the student to inquire about missed work and tests. Zeros will be given if a student fails
to make up work within an acceptable time frame. Unexcused absences void all make-up privileges. If there was
an assignment due when you were gone, it will be due when you are in my class next if you desire to receive full
credit for the assignment.

On the day you return from an absence you should arrive early to class OR see me before school.

When you come to class, you need to put your admit slip in the admit slip container for me to sign
at a convenient time. I will sign it and get it back to you by the end of class.

It will be your responsibility to go to the “ABSENT” crate and look in both the binder and class
folder for the missed class work and bellwork. I will not spend class time to give you this
information. If you have questions that the absent binder does not answer for you, you can talk
with me before/after class or before/after school to get this information.

Write the word ‘absent’ across the top of any work you are turning in late due to an absence,
otherwise, I will assume the paper is late and late work consequences will apply.
K. Make Up Tests
If you have an excused absence for a test day you will have to arrange for a make-up test. You will have one
week, beginning the date you return to make-up the test. Unexcused absences void all make-up privileges. To
make up the test you will need to ask for a study period pass at an appropriate time or schedule a time
before/after school.
L. Hall Passes/Leaving Class
If you need to leave class for any reason, you must have your planner. Only one person may leave the class at a
time. You’ll be given a hall pass that has 6 passes on it for you to leave the room for the restroom, locker, office,
etc. Keep the pass in your planner or notebook (something you will always have with you). Unused passes equal
extra credit at the end of the semester.
M. Employability Traits/Daily Points:
My performance procedures reflect desired traits that employers are looking for in the future workforce.
Continuous practice is required to make these traits second nature for an individual: therefore, I have
incorporated them into my performance procedures. Each day students will earn up to 20 points for
demonstrating the skills in four areas: Human Relations, Time Management, Listening Skills, and Teamwork.

Students earn these points by simply coming to class and doing what is asked of them. This is an
all or nothing grade. You either earn the points each day, or you don’t. Examples of things that
would cause students to lose points include, but are not limited to: non-attendance, not being
prepared, tardiness, disturbing class, not being on task, or not following class expectations. In
addition, if a student is not in class, they cannot earn a daily grade. If the absence is excused,
students may ask for an additional assignment in order to make up the points.
N. Emergency Procedures:
Instructions will be discussed as a class and the procedures will be reviewed. School emergency policy will be
posted in the front of the classroom.
