Lesson Plan Title: Root-words review Concept / Topic To Teach: Establish a basic knowledge of root-words Specific Objectives: Students will establish a knowledge of root words through review and implementation.(1.1.11 C, F; 1.2.11 A) Required Materials: Definition Sheet Anticipatory Set (Lead-In): After Bellwork explain that this class is based on their choices for SAT prep. Step-By-Step Procedures: 1. Begin by having a student read the daily bellwork. 2. Ask for volunteers to discuss the bellwork. 3. Review definitions of words(shout out) that contain the root words that will be used in the activity. Read the definition and they have to pick the correct root--it could be the definition of the root word or main word. 4. Break class into 5 groups. 5. Begin Airplane competition: First, have your students make some paper airplanes. Stand the students in a line and let them test fly their planes. For the competition, assign different classroom objects points (e.g. table 5 points, door 10 points, trashcan 20 points). Ask a students a question and if s/he answers correctly then s/he can throw and try to hit one of the target objects to win points. 6. The winners get the first pick of prizes 7. Students will keep the handout for individual study. Assessment Based On Objectives: Measure the students' understanding of Root Words through the implementation of Root Words in a group activity.
