CLASS RULES, REGULATIONS, AND PROCEDURES FOR THE MARINE CORPS JUNIOR RESERVE OFFICER
TRAINING CORPS (MCJROTC) PROGRAM AT RICHWOODS HIGH SCHOOL
1. Mission. The goal of MCJROTC Leadership Education is to:
a. Develop leadership and build character.
b. Create informed, patriotic, and responsible citizens.
c. Develop responsible young adults who are physically, mentally, and morally fit.
d. Develop informed and civic-minded young adults prepared for higher education, civilian careers, and public service.
e. Instill discipline, respect, and responsibility through military-related subjects and activities.
2. Training Schedule. The standard weekly training schedule will be as follows:
Mondays
leadership education
Tuesday
physical training
Wednesday
close order drill
Thursday
uniform Inspection (uniform is worn the entire school day).
Fridays
leadership education/team building
3. Academics. JROTC is a 1/2 credit, academic class. Cadets are assessed grades based upon compliance, participation, and
performance.
4. Uniforms. All cadets are required to wear the prescribed uniform throughout the entire day (normally Thursdays). Cadets who fail
to wear the uniform on designated days will be assessed a penalty of one full letter grade for every two no-dress offenses per marking
period. Cadets with an excused absence on uniform day are required to wear the uniform on the next school day they are in
attendance. Failure to wear the uniform on that day, they will result in a no-dress offense. Cadets will be treated as young adults. As
such, they will be held accountable to ensure that the uniform is clean, pressed, and ready for inspection. The Marine Corps uniform
has a long history and tradition. It is a privilege that they have not earned; however, they are required to wear it with pride and dignity
at all times. If cadets are seen wearing uniforms improperly, the first time they will receive a warning; the second time, they will be
considered non-compliant which will require a parent/ instructor conference prior to being allowed to wear the uniform again.
Wearing the uniform of a USMC JROTC cadet is a core requirement for being in the program. If you cannot comply, please do not
enroll in JROTC.
5. Physical Training. Physical Training is designed to improve the overall fitness of each cadet and teach them a healthy lifestyle.
Designated physical training days will require each cadet to bring their MCJROTC issued physical training (PT) clothing to school.
Cadets not wearing the proper PT uniform will receive zero points for PT on that day. Cadets unable to participate due to medical
problems (verified by the school nurse) will be required to dress out and participate up to their limitations. Cadets displaying a lack of
effort will be counseled and encouraged to modify behavior. If you are unwilling or are unable to participate in rigorous physical
activity please do not enroll in JROTC.
6. Marksmanship Training. Cadet will receive air rifle safety and marksmanship training throughout the school year. Each cadet will
receive a safety class and will be given the opportunity to qualify with the Daisy air rifle and possibly earn a marksmanship badge that
can be worn with the service uniform. Each cadet must have parental consent form on file prior to participating in marksmanship.
Form attached to this letter.
7. Leadership/Daily Conduct. Daily conduct will weigh heavily on each cadet’s leadership grade. Behavioral issues in MCJROTC
and other classes will have a negative consequence on the cadet’s leadership grade. Expectations of leadership development will be
progressive in nature. One must demonstrate respect for authority and be a good follower before qualifying for leadership positions
within MCJROTC. USE OF PROFANITY OR A DEMONSTRATION OF DISRESPECT FOR AUTHORITY WILL NOT BE
TOLERATED! JROTC is not a behavior modification program or “boot camp” for undisciplined or troublesome students.
8. Grooming/Appearance Standards. Cadets are expected to maintain RHS and MCJROTC clothing regulations and standards at all
times. This includes, but is not limited to, no sagging trousers, no suggestive pictures or script on clothing, etc. Strict compliance
with grooming standards set forth in the Marine Corps Uniform Regulation Manual will be enforced. This includes, but not limited to,
length, style and color of hair, facial hair, make-up, and facial adornment (body piercing, etc.). Cadets not willing to complying with
these standards should not enroll in the MCJROTC program. Non-compliance of MCJROTC regulations will result in a failing grade
for the semester.
9. Classroom Procedures. Food, drinks and gum are not allowed during class time. During heat conditions water may be allowed at the
discretion of the Senior Marine Instructor. All cadets must be in their seats when the tardy bell rings. Cadets not in their assigned seats
will be considered tardy. Again, acts that compromise the development of and demonstrate the lack of mastery of the tenants of
leadership will directly affect their leadership grade.
10. After School Activities. We have a number of after school activities that your cadet may participate in.
Drill Team
Rifle Marksmanship Team
Orienteering Team
Color Guard
Physical Fitness Team
Information on these activities will be presented in detail at the beginning of the school year.
11. Summary. Participation in JROTC is a privilege; those who are unable to comply with the compliance standards should not enroll
in MCJROTC. Please initial and sign the attached parental consent form and return it no later than ___________________.
