Leadership Activity: Preparing A Leadership Presentation Objective: Learn team work and respond quickly by listening carefully Gain experience in the ability to quickly interpret, organize, and pass on information within a tight time restriction. Motivation: Leaders must often make quick decisions and communicate information rapidly. This exercise will give each of you an appreciation for this process. Activity: 1. Form teams of two with one member being a noticeably higher grade. Form two equal ranks ordered by Grade when the command “READY…GO”: is given. The ranking officer will be at the head of line one. The most junior Cadet the head of line two. Stand at attention during the process NO talking… this is a silent exercise You will have one minute to complete Remember this is a team exercise and all members should be participating equally regardless of rank! Any questions? READY…GO! 2. To confirm the order each Cadet will give their grade in order immediately following the one in front of them. Sing out… I’m hard of hearing! 3. The junior member of each team will select a topic from those announced by raising their right hand. The ranking Cadet of each team may influence a selection by placing their hand on the more junior Cadets right shoulder but may not speak. The junior Cadet need not wait to be influenced if they desire a topic. 4. Those who wait till near the end may have to accept a topic that could be less desirable. Each Team will prepare a three minute presentation on the Topic lesson using the outline they are given. You have 10 minutes to research the topic and make the desired notes. You do not have to make a thorough presentation… provide only three items to discuss for your topic. You may read your notes for the presentations. 5. The team will decide between them who will introduce the topic and provide the objective and motivation and who will present the body and conclusion of the presentation. Conclusion: Leadership requires not only knowing what to do, but having some level of experience in doing! For many of you, tonight may have been your first experience!
