About Wuzhen Theatre Festival
On May 9th 2013, the grand opening of the 2013 Inaugural Wuzhen
Theatre Festival raises its curtain in this famous southern ancient town.
With 11 days and nights, 7 theatre venues, 6 specially invited plays, 12
plays and 25 Young Theatre Artist’s Competition works, 120 dialogues
and workshops,es all the tyshare the experience with masters from
domestic and oversea, 3 top Odin Theatre workshops will come to you.
There are 17580 audiences, 183000 tourists and local people will take
part in, 139 media will cover this event. What’s more, there are more
than 200 artists, experts and celebrities from all over the world will
gather in Wuzhen.
Wuzhen Theatre Festival offers a platform for types dream- makers.
The internationally invited part brings 6 visual feasts which are created
by masters from China and abroad. Young Theatre Artist’s Competitions
part sparks young artists ’12 theatre dreams. The outdoor carnival
shortens the distance between the art and life. Dialogues and workshops
provide a chance for world theatre lovers to communicate with masters.
Theatre lovers and life dreamers come to Wuzhen so as to enjoy a soul
event through the collision and fusion on both theatre to life, and town
to masters.
About Outdoor Carnival Program
In Outdoor Carnival Program of the 2013 Inaugurate Wuzhen
Theatre Festival, performance artists from all over the world will entertain
you with over 500 performances, including street theatre, music,
contemporary performance art, traditional Chinese opera, juggling, and
many others. Come face to face with the vitality of the Carnival amid the
ambiance of Wuzhen's ancient walkways!

Outdoor Carnival Program Instructions
I. Time and Place
Time: Oct 30th 2014—Nov 9th 2014, 11 days
Place: Outdoor public space in Wuzhen West Scenic Zone
II. Application period and ways
The recruitment is officially began on May 30th, 2o14. You can
download the application form from our website. The committee will
also invite a few teams to participate.
III. Types
Theatre, dance, dramatic, video, music, modern art, creative works.
Theatre: any type; combination with the environment and
interaction with audience are encouraged. (Duration should not be more
than 45 minutes).
Dance: any type; combination with the environment is encouraged.
(Duration should not be more than 45 minutes).
Dramatic: various dramatic from different regions.
Video: not more than 60 minutes; will be released in the open-air
movie of Wuzhen West.
Music: any types of outdoor live shows.
Modern art: all kinds of modern performance including equipment,
multimedia, behavior, body paint and so on.
Creative works: all kinds of cross border performances.
IV. Applicants and Quantitative Limitation
All artists, and creative individuals or teams are encouraged to
participate. No limits on nationality, age and related background.
The number of cast members (including the actors and crew) should
not be more than 6. Special demands with associated description should
be put forward to the Wuzhen Theatre Festival Committee in advance.
V. Selection Criteria
Wuzhen Theatre Festival Committee will finish the selection based
on works’ description, quality, introduction submitted by applicants, as
well as their performance time and number of sessions etc.
VI. Place
All public space is available except for indoor theatres, including
without limitation: all available outdoor space, rehearsal rooms, and
makeshift stages and other available space in the scenic zone.
VII. Fee and Allowance
Based on the selection result, Wuzhen Theatre Festival Committee
will provide corresponding travel expenses, performance expenditure,
tickets of the scenic zone, meal allowances and accommodation
arrangement. Each of the selected individuals or teams can receive a set
of souvenir.
VIII. Awards
The best work of the Outdoor Carnivals will be selected by the
audience.
IX. Deadline
There is no specific deadline for the Outdoor Carnival Unit of 2014
Wuzhen Theatre Festival. The quota will be decided according to detailed
schedule and site planning, and applications will not be accepted when
the amount is full.
X. Others
(1) If there are disputes in the performance time and place, the
committee will make coordination according to the works’ real
situation. The individuals or teams should fully cooperate with the
committee.
(2) All the Outdoor Carnival groups will attend the the opening
ceremony and before the closing ceremony.
(3) Wuzhen Theatre Festival reserves the right for the interpretation
of above terms.
