Pick a patient you have seen on the Community Clinic rotation
o
Use PowerPoint to create a 15 to 20 minute presentation
o
Research sources (use at least 3 sources. one must be EBM) for information and images
o
Present to an attending physician and your classmates at the end of the rotation
o
Demonstrate skill in use of videoconferencing equipment
Structure/Content Guidelines:

Provide an introduction
o
Develop information logically
o
Give adequate information
o
Include appropriate images
o
Give a summary
o

Text: Be concise and to the point
o
Type: Use adequate size and limit the font types
o
Design: Be consistent and use a background that is easy on the eyes
o
Slide Format: Use bullets and be sure information is uncluttered
o
Titles/Key Concepts: Clearly identify topic and emphasis what is important
o
Color: Use color appropriately
o
Creativity: Use sound and animations appropriately, don’t overdo

Overall appearance: sit up straight, no food or drink present
o
Voice projection: speak clearly at an appropriate pace
o
Eye contact with the Audience: look at camera
o
Presentation pace: talk, do not just read the slides
o
Ask for questions: demonstrate ability of answer questions
Videoconferencing Guidelines:
Learn to operate the controls and demonstrate an understanding of the videoconference process
o
Connection: dialing the bridge
o
Set-up: loading PowerPoints
o
Move camera: moving the camera to frame the speaker
o
Switch views: showing the PowerPoint or yourself as appropriate
o
Control the microphone and speaker: using mute, and volume controls.
Case Study:
Construct a differential diagnosis and develop treatment/management strategies for common diseases and
conditions seen in family practice.
o
Use and cite at least three references with at least one Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) summary which
will be used for the Critical Appraisal assignment.
