Surfing Through Cable
Cable Internet is just a means of connecting to the
Internet through the same coaxial cable that you use
for your cable television. You can either choose to
connect the cable to your set-up box (television which
is Internet ready) or connect it to the LAN card in
your PC, Cable Internet provides a means for
broadband
services
such
as
video-on-demand,
interactive TV, online shopping facilities for the local
area and so on.
A common misconception is that cable modems will
provide faster speeds. This, realistically speaking, is
not possible. For instance, if we assume that a cable
operator has a 2 Mbps leased line and around 100
people are using it at the same time, then the
bandwidth gets divided and a use would probably get a
2 Kbps speed. This may seem quite slow when compared
to the 56 Kbps speed you get with a modem, but the
plus factor is that the connection is permanent or
always on and you don’t get pay for additional telephone
charges.
In theory, cable operators can even get a 30 Mbps
leased line and distribute it among the subscribers, but
obviously the costs would then shoot up. Normally cable
operators can also take up one leased line and segment
it across different neighborhoods, with each segment
being allotted a specific bandwidth.
With a cable
Internet
network, the
same
cable
that brings
Zee and Sun
to your living
room
can
bring
Microsoft.co
m
and
rediff.com.
There’s not much that is required at the cable operator’s
end. First, the cable operator needs leased line
connectivity from an ISP. The cable operator will also
need a router. For the subscribers to access the Internet
through the existing co-axial cables that connect to the
television, cable modems are required. These cable
modems enable high-speed data connection and have two
connectors. One of the connectors will be used for the
television slot, while the other will be used for the
computer. That cable modems are similar to a normal PC
modems are a lot more complex, They have properties of a
modem, radio, bridge, router, coder and other elements.
It’s also possible to share a cable modem among different
users and theoretically you can have 16 users on one cable
modem.
Direction for sending o2o data
 o2o data should be sent through FTP software on
TCIL/CRPO/OTO_DUMP directory and information
should be mailed to suman.urs@tcil.com
 While making LZH file please note that the file name
should be same as the dump file name.
Eg: FBD1412C.DMP => FBD1412C.LZH
FBD1412F.DMP => FBD1412F.LZH
 Also to overcome the broken archive problem, test
the LZH file while sending to CRPO.
LHA T FBD1412C.LZH
LHA T FBD1412F.LZH
 o2o data sent on TCIL/CRPO/OTO_DUMP folder
will only be accepted. Do not send o2o date in any
other directory.
Any Queries should be forwarded to Editor: Swastika Johorey

Data checking before sending data to CRPO
Ensure timely an quality data and file transfer
Please update your version if old any.
 It has been found that the data checking software is not being used by any of the Officer-Systems.
 Data through O2O is not being sent from all the locations everyday.
 The HRMS data must be sent by 5th of every month through FTP and the information should be sent at
harish.malhotra@tcil.com
 Branch & Controlling segregation will be sent by next week, which has to be used from 01/01/2002.
 It has also been observed that VTS Card number is not been put by any of the offices throughout India, which is very
embarrassing.
 The status of the CBS, which has to be sent on everyday basis, is not been sent by any of the locations. Please send the
same on daily basis. Any kind of problems / query should be directed to sudesh.jain@tcil.com.
 The o2o data transfer from controlling to region and from region to CRPO is ready for testing and being tested at DLRO.
After successful testing it will be sent to all controlling and regions for information.

What is MSN Messenger?
Bandwidth: A measurement of the volume
of pipe that can be transmitted over a
network at a given time think of a network
as a water pipe – the higher the bandwidth
(the larger the diameter of the pipe), the
more data (water) can pass over the network
(through the pipe).
Binary: The system by which combinations
of OS & IS are used to represent any type of
data stored on a computer.
Bitmap File: A common image format
(.bmp) defined by a rectangular pattern of
pixels.

Why computers crash?
If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port,
And the bus is Interrupted at a very last resort,
And the access of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
Then the socket packet pocket has an error to report.
If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
And the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash,
And your data is corrupted cause the index doesn't hash,
If the label on the cable on the table at your house
Says the network is connected to the button on the mouse,
But your packets want to tunnel to another protocol,
That’s repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall,
And your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss,
Till your icons in the windows are as wavy as a souse,
Then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang,
'Cuz sure as I'm a poet the suckers gonna hang!
When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy in the disk,
And the macrocode instructions cause unnecessary risk,
Then you'll have to flash the memory and you'll want to
RAM your ROM,

Then your situation's hopeless and your
systems goanna crash!
Quickly turn off the computer and be sure to tell your
Mom!
