Title: Business Development Internship, Sustainable Product MSDT Hiring Manager: Jacqueline O’Brien Division: Growth and Market Strategy Location: Cleveland, OH Position Description: The Business Development Intern is a key member of the Sustainable Product and Market Strategy Development Team. The newly created Sustainable Product MSDT is focused on profitable growth of current and new products and services that benefit the environment by leveraging alternative energy and climate change opportunities, Alcoa’s design expertise, materials knowledge, global presence, market experience, and sustainability brand. The primary role of the Business Development Intern, under the direction of the marketing director, is to lead market research, competitive analysis, & opportunity assessment to identify a growth or white space opportunity, validate market & business concepts to create a strategic market & comprehensive business plan for the opportunity. Key Responsibilities: Conduct and coordinate market research and competitive analysis for identifying an emerging global market need and opportunity. Develop, maintain and communicate market sector analysis including industry & market trends, forecasted market size and segments, value chain, customers, key suppliers, competitors, business models and strategies Lead overall market segmentation, opportunity assessment, and prioritization activities Conduct "idea searches" to identify a new business opportunity for Alcoa Conduct and coordinate market research and competitive analysis for identifying an unmet and emerging global business opportunity. Identify and Create a Strategic Plan for Target Market and External Customers Compile quantitative and qualitative market and financial analyses and information, e.g., segmentation, SWOT, supply/demand, price elasticity, economics, supply chain Create a comprehensive business development plan, including technical and financial assessment Derive actionable conclusions and recommendations based on these analyses and solicit sponsorship from key influencers and decision makers Lead Innovative White Space Business Opportunity Identification Activities Develop compelling value propositions based on identified external customer needs and Alcoa's ability to provide differentiated technical solutions Develop comprehensive business cases, including technical and financial assessment, for subsequent review by Alcoa executive management Personally manage a growth project through the new market development process Utilize team development and project management methods for effectively and efficiently identifying the market opportunity and driving the creation and implementation of new product solutions through the development process Identify and utilize external consultants and resources for identifying market needs and creating viable product/service solutions Build and Lead Innovative Business Opportunity Identification Teams Develop Key Relationships Establish working relationships and frameworks with strategic external customers for identifying articulated and unarticulated needs and collaboratively developing solutions Establish working relationships with key influencers and decision makers within Alcoa and key external organizations for market delivery speed Leverage key external relationships as needed to identify emerging needs and solutions Skills Required: Masters of Business Administration preferred. Dual degrees or concentrations in Environmental disciplines highly desirable. Experience in the renewable energy and/or green building space Minimum 5 years of experience, along with: Expertise in the application of industrial marketing, business planning, product/service development and project management methods Motivational team leadership with high level of confidence, commitment, and passion to drive new business development at Alcoa Strong interpersonal and entrepreneurial leadership skills for building linkages to external customers leading to an in-depth discovery of their current and future product/service and business needs Planning and leading complex projects and teams (designers, engineers, marketing, business/finance, outsourcing, multiple BUs, etc.) Influential oral and written communication skills Strong strategic thinking capability for connecting customer needs with innovative business & technical solutions within complex technical systems and diverse value chain positions Ability to manage multiple projects and customer demands Strong analytical skills and business judgment Ability to work in teams and in decentralized organizations Ability to work in complex environment to convince people through influential and non-hierarchical positions Travel Requirements 25 – 50% (could include international travel)
