Earnings and Productivity Statistics in December 2010 Employees In December 2010, total nonagricultural payroll employment, at 6,752 thousand, increased by 15 thousand (or 0.22%) from last month. Comparing December 2009 and December 2010, payroll employee increased by 229 thousand (or 3.52%). The average employment since January 2010 was 6,641 thousand, increased by 198 thousand (or 3.08%) from the same period of last year. Employment in the industrial sector increased 4.21% and increased 2.16% in the service sector. Among all industries, the largest increasing in employment was manufacturing (106 thousand), followed by wholesale and retail trade (23 thousand) and construction and support services (15 thousand). The service sector represented 54.59% of the total. Turnover Rate The average accession rate within industry and service sectors in December 2010 was 1.98%, decreased by 0.53% from last month and showed a decreasing of 0.27% from last December. While the separation rate of 1.76%, decreased by 0.42% from last month and decreased by 0.12 percentage point than last December. The average accession rate from January 2010 to December 2010 was 2.68%, up by 0.56% from the corresponding period of last year. The industrial sector increased 0.73 percentage point and the service sector increased 0.42 percentage point. The average separation rate was 2.39%, up by 0.20 percentage point from the same period of last year. The industrial sector increased by 0.17 percentage point, the service sector increased by 0.23 percentage point. Earnings Average monthly earning (including regular and irregular earning) per employee at the industrial and service sector in December 2010 was NT$44,396 which showed a 11.97% increasing than last month and a 3.75% increasing than the same month of last year. The average regular earning in December 2010 was NT$36,737, increased by 0.80% from last month and up by 1.13% than the same month of last year. It showed a 14 consecutive months of growth. The average monthly earning since January 2010 was NT$44,430, increased by 5.34% from the same period of last year. That was also the greatest increasing in last 16 years if comparing with the same period of time. The average regular earning was NT$36,271, increased by 1.83% from the same period of last year. After deflating by the Consumer Price Index increasing rate (0.96%), the real average earning rose 4.34% and the real regular earning rose 0.85%. Hours of work The average monthly hours of work (including regular and over-time) for industry and service sectors in December 2010 totaled to 191.7 hours, increased by 6.1 hours from last month and increased by 0.6 hours from the same month of last year. The average working-hour since January 2010 was 181.2 hours, increased by 4.5 hours from the same period of last year. Compared with last December, the industry with the most increasing working-hour was manufacturing industry that reported a 9.7 hours increasing, followed by support services industry that showed a 4.4 hours increasing. Labor Productivity and Unit Output Labor Cost In December 2010, the manufacturing sector's labor productivity index was 128.64 (2006=100), increased by 0.75% from last month and up by 13.59% from the same month of last year. The manufacturing unit output labor cost index were 72.47 (2006=100), up by 7.09% from last month and decreased by 10.30% from the same month of last year. The average labor productivity index since January 2010 was 17.24% more from the same period of last year, while the unit output labor cost index since January 2010 was reported 12.29% less.
