From: Anurag Mittal I intend to help the families of Indian soldiers who have laid down their lives for our country. I wanted to contact some organisation who works in this field to ensure that all the support (financial and in kind) that the government had outlined for these familes is actually reaching them. The motiviation comes from the fact that many of the families specially in the remote areas of the country do not get benefited from what is actually meant for them. I want to do this as a part of my social contribution towards society. Would you know of any NGO who works in this field? I'll be grateful if you could let me know. --------------------------------------------- Mr Mittal we could discuss my no is 011-26891513 best wishes Chauhan, SainikSangh --- Original Message ----From: Anurag Mittal To: gs@sainiksangh.com Cc: karmayog - tanya Sent: Monday, February 25, 2008 10:19 AM Subject: Re: Helping soldiers' families Greetings Team SainikSangh: Good to hear from you. While we do not work in the field specified by you, I thought I'd just let you know what we do so that in case there are any youth from soldier's families seeking jobs we could try and help: We have been, through alliances with NGOs, assisting youth from low-income communities to secure entry level jobs with companies, typically after due training, thereby creating sustainable social and economic value. We are already working with different NGOs in different cities on these lines e.g. Smile Foundation, Prayas, Aide et Action, JSS Dharavi, etc., and have placed about 190 candidates in ten cities in the past nine months with reputed companies in the Retail and Hospitality sector with average annual salaries ranging between Rs. 48,000 to Rs. 60,000 per annum plus performance based incentives. Several entry level job openings (i.e. Customer Service Associates), part time and full time, currently exist in different cities with reputed Retail, Hospitality and Marketing companies by whom we have been retained. The attachment on Job Profiles provides more information on the job criteria and salary aspects. Wish you all the best in your endeavours. Tel. – 9819827301, 2352314 From: Kanta Singh Dear Anurag, Army Wives Welfare Association is one of the good organisations working for this issue. The Association is being headed by Wife of the Army Chief and she is responsible for ensuring that all the benefits reach the women. The whole system works very well and is very transparent but the problem arises at the user end. Families of the soldiers are the culprits and they start harassing the widow for money. In some cases, families force the women to get married to brothers-in-law (who may be too young or too old) to keep the money in the house. This happened a lot after Kargil but Army makes sure that the money reaches the woman. For further details, please contact: Col. I am a retired soldier and have been with HelpAge India for last about a decade. To the best of my knowledge there is no NGO working towards this cause at national level. Generally District Soldiers’ Boards (DSSA) and various Formations of Indian Army provide this coverage and most of the Army widows are provided with their entitlements. The cases reported in the media are those where commitments made by outside agencies like Indian Oil are not met. Also, in some cases legal complications may result in non release of pensions and other entitlements. Most of the problems relate to army personnel who deserve pensions/ privileges other than the standard pensions. I suggest you to meet authorities at Adjutant General’s Branch at Army HQ to find out as to where and how you can help. You may like to indicate the area where you are located and I may be able to help you in getting in touch with the right person. Regards Col (Retd.)
