Market Update Sep 06 Vietnam Shares Soar; Traders Upbeat on GDP Growth Outlook Vietnam’s shares continued gaining streak for sixth consecutive sessions as investors expected the government would have measures to help boost economic growth to 7.18% in Q3 and 6.7% in 2010. VN-Index ended up 1.58% or 7.25 points at 466. Volume surged to 57.209 million shares worth VND1.604 trillion, compared to 47.06 million shares valued at VND1.222 trillion Wednesday. The market closed for Thursday and Friday. Locals continued strong buying after the government forecast the economy may grow at 7.18% in the third quarter, 6.7% in 2010 and projected 7.5% in 2011. Authorities may have greater efforts to achieve GDP growth targets such as boosting money supply or lowering interest rates. Total credits rose 14.15% by August 17, compared to the full-year target of 25%, indicating that some large banks are expected to cut lending rates in coming months to expand lending. Foreigners were active net buyers of VND70.28 billion on the Hochiminh Stock Exchange, and net sellers of VND1.26 billion on the Hanoi Stock Exchange today. The VN-Index is likely to face resistance at 480 this week Saigon Securities (SSI) was the most active stock, soaring 4.9% at VND29,900 on 3.2 million shares traded. Of total, foreigners bought 183,570 shares and sold 420,150 shares. REE, the second most active, gained 4.1% at VND17,900 on volume of 2.5 million shares. Of total, foreigners bought 83,410 shares and sold 221,500 shares. Ocean Group (OGC) increased 1.4% today at VND35,500 on 1.7 million shares traded, with foreigners buying 416,760 shares. Licogi No.16 (LCG) ranked among the biggest gainers, up 5% at VND37,800 on trade of one million shares, including 6,140 shares bought and 52,800 shares sold by foreigners. On the other side, PV Drilling (PVD) was the heaviest loser, falling 4.8% at VND44,000 on 310,480 shares changed hands. In total, 215 stocks closed higher, 20 ended lower and 23 remained unchanged.
