Ruben Berrios 9/29 The Struggles in krik? Krak! The book krik? Krak! By Edward danticat shows many things that people had to go through during that time period. He discusses mostly about the struggles that the people had to go through. Struggles like the relationships between the family. The living conditions that they had to face every day of their lives. And also the violence wich they had to try and get past. All of the people didn’t want to live in these conditions but they had to go through it anyways. Many people had to live in poverty for example in the short story “nineteen thirtyseven” the family that the story was about had to live in one house all squished up. And also in the other short story “wall of fire rising” that family had to go through the same exact thing as the other one. Also in nineteen thirty-seven josephin’s mom is in prison living in a very unsanitary conditions, like when she tried to try and reserve the food that she was eating by chewing it and spiting it back out. There was alot violence going in the towns in Haiti. Like when the macoutes in “children of the sea” went going around raping people and torturing them and shooting the civilians that where very innocent. Also in nineteen thirty-seven the government torched the women that where convicted of witchcraft. The violence was so bad at the time that it made people want to evacuate Haiti and go to some other places. the short story “night women” also had some violence like when the prostitute was forced to have sexy time with a man or else she would have died. In the story wall of fire rising there was a family that had to go through the struggles. The family was not perfect guy eventually committed suicide because he didn’t want to live that life anymore. In night women the prostitutes had to lie to her son about his dad. The mother and daughters situation in nineteen thirty-seven like when they had to vist each other at prison because the mom was in jail. In the children of the sea they had to evacuate from the corrupted government and the daughter was talking very rude about the situation.
