Luis Polanco October, 06, 2010 English 3 Period 1 Final Draft Krik? Krak! In Edwidge Danticat’s novel “Krik? Krak!” she describes the hardships and the tortures that women were facing in Haiti. Danticat showed it by the way women were treated, the responsibility of women taking care of family, and their ancestor. In Krik? Krak! Edwidge Danticat showed the ways women were treated in Haiti. For example in her short story “Night Women” danticat says “One of my suitors gave it to him to plug to his ears so he can stay asleep while mommy works” (85). Men use women to have sex in that story. In Danticat short story “Nineteen-thirty seven” she says “All these women were here (prison) for the same reason. They were said to have been seen at night rising from the grounds like birds on fire” (38). In Edwidge Danticat’s novel Krik? Krak! she showed the responsibilities of women taking care of families in Haiti.Danticat also talks about women defending there children. For example in “Wall of fire rising” she says “For a young boy to be on any list that might influence his destiny” (66). Danticat also talked about the struggles of raising babies. For example on “Between the pool and the gardenia” she says that “In the city, I hear they throw out whole entire children” (93). In Krik? Krak! She talks about the women’s ancestor of Haiti. For example in “Epilogue: women like us” she says “The women in your family has never lost touch with one another” (222). Danticat have this good quote for all women generation. “Death is a path we take to meet to the other side” (Danticat 222).Also in Epilogue she put all the women from the other stories made them all into one family. Due to all the stories in Krik! Krak? This is why this book is a national book award finalist. Did you know that edwidge danticat was born in 1969 so she wasn’t even born when all this tragic event happened in Haiti. Krik? Krak! Had many thesis but this thesis has amazing research. Hopefully we read more edwige danticat book.
