H olden is just a homophobe, says his old history teacher, Mr. Antolini in an exclusive interview with The Catcher. Holden who is a sixteen year old boy, last week accused Mr. Antolini of having tried to sexually abuse him a few weeks ago, before he was institutionalized to a mental hospital for attacking random people that were “phony”. Now Mr. Antolini has responded to the accusations and says he was not trying to sexually abuse him and says that Holden is just a homophobe. Mr. Antolini says he offered the boy to sleep one night on his sofa because Holden got expelled from school and during the night, Mr. Antolini came to check on Holden to see if he needed anything. When Mr. Antolini saw that Holden was asleep, he put his hand on Holden's head because he cared for him. But just as Mr. Antolini was patting Holden's head, Holden woke up and stormed out of the house, because he thought Mr. Antolini was coming on to him. Mr. Antolini who is married but has no children, says he is not gay at all and loves his wife very much. Holden however thinks that Mr. Antolini is gay but Holden does not want to prosecute Mr. Antolini. Holden says he is not a homophobe but he thought that it was very uncomfortable when Mr. Antolini was touching him. Gay people around New York came together yesterday to celebrate gay rights and this case was brought up. The head speaker of the GAG (Gays are good) organization said that Holden Caulfield is not well and that the gay community should not be offended. On the other hand have churches and many Christians accused Mr. Antolini for trying to sexually abuse a underage boy and want Holden to prosecute Mr. Antolini. The police says that they are investigating the matter and they will inform the public as soon as they know more. THE CATCHER 2 | MONDAY Questions of the day What do you think about the book? What were your concers about Holden? Do you think J. D. Salinger is a mad man? HOLDEN´S RELATIONSHIP WITH WOMEN Holden is a very smart and intelligent person, but he does not get along with women. He is very obsessed with them and often tries to call them or give them a “buzz” as he calls it. The strongest relationship is with Phoebe his younger sister. She is very mature and talented girl. Holden and Phoebe are both very emotional and very close. They got even closer together when their brother Allie died. This relationship to Phoebe brings happiness in Holden’s live and it is the only thing that makes him happy. Sometimes Phoebe gets angry with Holden if he forbids her to do something. The age gap between Holden and Phoebe is positive because he finds it easier to connect to people that are younger or older then him. That’s why he can not make friends of his own age, they always end up negative. When Holden meets the two nuns they got well together because of the age gap and one of them was a English teacher and English was Holden’s best subject. The conversation ends when Holden gives them ten dollar for charity. Jane Gallagher was a close friend of Holden, she lived right next to him. Holden likes her and remembers her very well. They used to play checkers, golf and tennis. Their relationships never got serious, they only held hands frequently. In the story Holden is trying to call her, but it often ends up not calling her, because he is not in the „mood“. He Currency Rate Euro 1,5 $ phoned once but no one answered. Holden speaks very positively about her. He will never forget her. Holden used to date Sally Hayes who is very attractive. Holden says that she was stupid but she knew about theater, plays and literature, and for some reason Holden thinks that Ice. Kr. 0,015 $ she is intelligent. Holden makes a date with her, they went ice-skating in Rockefeller Brittish pnd. 1.99 $ Center, but after that Holden ruins everything and calls her „royal pain in the ass“ after Sally ignores his idea to run away and live together in a cabin. Sally said that this was a Canada dollar Yen 1$ 0.0097 $ ridiculous idea and said no. This shows that Holden is not capable of having normal conversation whit females of his own age. Although Holden had a little problem with women in the story, he was a eloquent speaker, he just found the right words in the right conversation. That is talent!! As many of you know he had a hard time finding himself and in the end snapped and attacked people he thought were phony. Of course Mr. and Mrs. Caulfield are devastated but they came here to tell their side of the story. Interweaver: Welcome, and thank you so much for coming and speaking about Holden Mr. Caulfield: Thank you for having us Interweaver: Tell me, what kind of child was Holden, was he a happy one, or did he like to be by himself? Mrs. Caulfield: He was a very good child and was nice to everyone. He did not have many friends but he and his brothers and sister where good friends and did everything together, they went to the movies and ice skating, everything they did they did together. Interweaver: that is good to hear but tell me do you think that sending Holden away to school to be a good idea? Mr. Caulfield: Well of course education is the most important thing and we wanted him to go to the best school possible. We did not know that he hated it where he was and I guess that is the reason why he was always flunking out. He is a very bright kid and we did not understand why he could not stay in school. Interweaver: Why did you think Holden attacked all those people and is now in the mental hospital? Mrs. Caulfield: If I can be honest I think that he just got fed up with life, he just thought that everything was fake and corny now I know that does not seem like a good enough reason to attack so many people but it was a big deal for Holden. And of course when his brother died he was devastated, that had a huge effect on him and his older brother had moved to Hollywood and Holden missed him and his whole family. Interweaver: Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Caulfield for shearing your story with us. And we all hope that you will get through these harsh times. Thank you Mr. Caulfield: You are welcome and thank you again for having us DAILY COMIC 5 THE CATCHER | MONDAY Holden is spoiled Holden is not my favorite character in the book and he is not the kind of person that I would hang out with. He is very spoiled, but that is not what bothers me, what bothers me is that he is not thankful for what he gets. He gets everything handed to him and he always interprets the good things that are done for him as something bad. For example, in the book when Stradlater goes on a date with Jane, Holden tries to find out how the date ended gets very jealous and tries to punch Stradlater right on that moment Holden is not thinking about what is best for Jane he is just thinking about himself. He did not care if Jane liked Stradlater or not he just didn‘t like the idea of them to being in a car together and so he attacks Stradlater that only shows how spoiled Holden is and he thinks that he can get what ever he wants. And when he flunks out of school all the time he he does not take into count how his parents must feel about it. He just feels the schools are corny and stupid and so he quits and that makes him a quitter, when something happens that he does not like he just gives up. He is always complaining but he does not do anything about it. At one point he talks about that once a week they get stake for dinner, in stead of being happy about getting stake for dinner he turns it into something negative. Holden might be very smart and all but I just don’t like his personality and that is my opinion on him. THE CATCHER 6 SUDOKU EASY | MONDAY Book Market MEDIUM Want to read the classics? Go to the bookmarket on 5th avenue and buy the best books ever made IMPOSSIBLE HARD ASK CINDY Dear Cindy I am a mother of two, I used to have three children but one of them died from leukemia. My son has been going through some tough times since the death of his brother and he is sort of out of control. Since the death of his brother he has been dropping out of one school after the other and there is nothing that I can do about it. He is a intelligent boy but it seems like after his brother past away he just lost the joy to study and do well. Dear Cindy, I need your help, what can I do to get my son back on track? Yours truly, Mrs. Caulfield Dear Mrs. Caulfield, I am sorry to hear about your son passing away and then again your other son being out of control. You need to talk to your son before it is to late, he is only going to work less without a little talk, if a talk wont work I would suggest some therapy for him to see better how the loss of his brother has affected him. Loss of a loved one is hard to deal with, especially for teenagers and it would be very good for your son to go to a psychiatrist for a little chat.
