http://ccnmtl.columbia.edu/ New CourseWorks for P&S MCY Clerkships and Selectives Access Mailtool Your New Courseworks sites can be found at http:// newcourseworks.columbia.edu. Log in with your Columbia University UNI and password. In addition to sending email to site members, you can email persons who are not members of your site by adding additional email addresses in the Other Recipients field. Membership Tip: Always put a subject in the subject line. If there’s no subject, email messages will not be sent and unfortunately there’s no error message. Anyone with a Columbia UNI can be a member of a Sakai CourseWorks site. Add new students and instructors in Site Settings > Add Participants. It is recommended that you get UNIs for any non-CU preceptors who should have regular access to your course site. Manage Groups The Group tool should be used to organize students by rotation, site, etc. Create groups in Site Settings > Manage Groups. Look for the Display to selected groups option in the Calendar and Announcement tools. The group feature works with the following tools: • Announcements: Release announcements to specific groups • Assignments: Create assignments for a group • Mailtool: Send targeted email messages to a group • Resources: Restrict access to files and folders by group • Calendar: Create Calendar events that are only visible to specific groups Announcements This tool is recommended for sending messages to students. Announcements are displayed on the homepage and there’s a log of all announcements. They can also be sent as email messages. Select High - All participants in the email notification option. All participants means everyone selected to receive the announcement. The default is no email notification. Announcements can be resent to the same persons or to other groups. Edit the announcement, save changes, and it will be updated. If you choose email notification, it will be resent as an email as well. Calendar Create individual and recurring events. Files and web links can be added to events. Files and Resources Keep your course content organized in folders. It will be easier for you and your students to find resources later. Make folders for specific content such as Lectures, Forms, Schedules etc. Migrating Content from Previous New Courseworks Sites • Go to the new site • Turn on the desired site tools: Site Settings>Edit Tools • Start import: Site Settings>Import from site • Select last year’s course from the list, click continue • Select the tools you want to import, click finish Turn on other tools in Site Settings > Edit Tools.
