12 months fixed term contract
£17,235 per annum, pro-rata 1635 annualised hours
(actual pay equals 85% of per annum figure)
TUSU is consistently in the top 10% of students’ unions in the UK due to the high quality
of activities and services we provide for our students. We have recently made a major
investment in our catering facilities and are seeking a hardworking and well organised
individual to support our existing catering team.
We are looking to appoint an individual with at least two years’ experience of working in a
fast paced, high volume, professional kitchen. The ideal candidate will have excellent food
preparation and delivery skills.
You will work with a team of student supervisors and staff ensuring that operational
standards are maintained to the highest possible level. You will also on occasion be the
Duty Manager, however you will take direction from the Catering Manager and the Deputy
Catering Manager.
You will have excellent communication and problem solving skills as well as an ability to
work in a student led environment. A flexible attitude to work is required as evening and
weekend work will be necessary.

Responsible to: Catering Manager
Main Purpose of post:
To assist the Catering Manager and Deputy with the operational day to day supervision of all Catering
operations so as to maximise turnover and minimise cost of sale together with setting the highest standards of
customer care.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Team Supervision
 To assist with the induction and training of student staff and maintain efficient training and other staff
records
 Assist the Catering Manager/Deputy to maintain service standards and ensure a high level of
customer service is achieved
 Keep yourself and student staff informed of product information and development
 To organise staff within the catering area so as to ensure timely production and service of said foods
 To lead by example, demonstrating excellent team work.
Food Service
 Train staff in food preparation and service
 Prepare and deliver food to the highest possible standards
 Be aware of all aspects of portion and cost control to ensure departmental targets are met
 Consistently demonstrate exceptional standards of food service at all times
 Be responsible for all aspects of customer care and service delivery
Stock



In the absence of the Catering Manager/Deputy, be responsible for the security and safety of all
stock and report any deficiencies and remedial action to the Catering Manager/Deputy immediately
Assist the Catering Manager/Deputy with the ordering and control of stock in accordance with the
Students’ Union's financial policies and procedures
Ensure stock is maintained at its optimum condition at all times.
Premises, Fixtures and Fittings
 Ensure that proper procedures are in operation for the internal and external security of the Catering
operation
 Ensure the proper and safe operation of all equipment at all times
 Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness of stock, fixtures and fittings within the catering
operation
 Assist the Catering Manager/Deputy with the maintenance of equipment, fixtures and fittings and to
rectify any problems in conjunction with other Students’ Union or University Managers.
Communications
 Ensure that a good relationship is developed and maintained with all staff and other University and
Students' Union Departments and external suppliers.
Operations
 To ensure that all aspects of operations comply with environmental health, safety hygiene regulations,
Student’ Union’s policies and procedures, house rules and Health & Safety requirements
 Take part in any activity relevant to the needs of the Catering operation as directed by the Catering
Manager
 A flexible attitude to work is required as evening and weekend work will be necessary
 Such other duties as may be necessary within the scope of the job to meet the business needs of the
Student’s Union
