St John and St James Blog: At St. John and St. James we have set up a new blog for the children to use both in school and at home, where they can comment on blogs about recent activities and events. We will also be able to describe a historical artefact and describe a basic timeline, based on our Ancient Egyptian topic. Adults working in Year 4 Miss House Miss Christian, Miss Wedderburn, Mr Gibson and Miss Proffitt This term we will be basing our learning around the fascinating topic of Thursday 27th November: Parent Art session Friday 28th November: Class assembly Wednesday 3rd December: Pantomime Friday 5th December :The British Museum Wednesday 17th December: Christmas performance in church Ancient Egypt! This term we will be delving into the history of ancient civilisations as we explore the world of the Ancient Egyptians over 5000 years ago. We will learn about Ancient Egyptian family life, rulers and education. We will study wondrous artefacts throughout our learning. Which will provide a great opportunity for observational drawings! English Science In Science we will be learning about Life In Habitats. We will be thinking about questions such as: What is a living organism? What basic needs do humans and animals have? How can we work out what sort of habitat an organism is likely to live in? Do all animals eat the same things? Can we predict which type of animals live in particular habitats? PE PE will take place on Wednesdays. It is essential that your child has the correct school PE uniform for each session on a Wednesday. Swimming We will be swimming every Tuesday. Please ensure your child brings a complete swimming kit, including swim suit, towel and swimming hat. Trips This half term we will be going on a trip to The British Museum on Friday 5th December. We will be exploring the Ancient Egyptian collection, getting close up to fascinating mummies, furniture, jewels and burial goods which will bring our learning to life! We will also be enjoying our annual trip whole school trip to the pantomime this term on Wednesday 3rd December to see Mother Goose at The Hackney Empire. I will be providing separate letters with further information on these trips. In Extended Writing this half-term, we will be focussing on information texts. We will be producing our own non-fiction flap books about Ancient Egypt as well as creating our own ‘Ancient Egyptian Travel Centre’ centre where we will persuade other staff and children to visit our favourite Ancient Egyptian sites! Maths We will be continuing to use the Primary Advantage maths scheme, which the children have really enjoyed during the first half term. We will be focusing on fractions, decimals, data handling, word problems and multiplication. Class Assembly Year 4’s Class Assembly will be on: Friday 28th November It would be great if you could come along and find out about all the wonderful learning we’ve been doing! RE and Values In RE we will be focussing on ’Jesus the Healer’ as we reflect on the miracles of Jesus. In Values we will be following the ‘Mind Up’ programme which aims to foster social and emotional awareness and promotes mindful attention to oneself and others. There is a writing activity as well as a maths exercise linked to what we have been doing that week in maths. Please support your child by discussing the homework tasks with them.
