Three Weeks to Some Great Deals Alaska Air Moblie Application Alaska Air – seeking a partner to architect and design an engaging and easy to use travel deals mobile application utilizing Windows 8 technologies – in 3 weeks. Astadia worked with Alaska Air and Microsoft to sculpt the functionality needed given the timeframe and technology constraints. Astadia iteratively designed the experience for tablet meeting all Microsoft internal design and UX standards while delivering a visually engaging experience to the customer. Numbers 3 Weeks 32 Screens Requirements, UX, and design process. Complete functionality was designed: find deals, learn about deal, book, and checkout. Challenge Astadia worked with Microsoft Consulting Services (MCS) on a WIN8 mobile application that had to be designed and built in three (3) weeks including an intensive review with Microsoft’s UX and design team to ensure it met all WIN8 design/UX guidelines. The application was created for Alaska Airlines to allow customers to create a “hometown” utilizing location services and find deals by destination, from “hometown” and by a map based on their location. It also had to include the ability to share deals with your friends and share flights the user booked. Solution Astadia assembled a UX strategist and art director/designer to meet with MCS and Alaska Air over three (3) days to map out all requirements, restrictions, and design concerns. The Astadia team designed daily and reviewed with MCS and Alaska Air each day. This process ensured the design, functionality, and user flow was in line with client and MCS expectations/guidelines. During the design phase it was determined that some of the functionality would not be feasible in development given the timeline and technology constraints. Minor tweaks were made to accommodate a link out to the booking and final designs were delivered and approved by Alaska Air and MCS. Astadia handed off wireframes and requirements to the development team. Results The Alaska Air client and MCS were very pleased with the user experience and design of the WIN8 mobile application.
