HOMEWORK #5
READING : Fogler, Chapter 4 & 5
1.
Fogler, Problem 4.25 parts a) & b). Note that the process is isothermal and
isobaric. You will need to use Polymath or some similar program to solve both
parts. In part b), IMRCF stands for "inert membrane reactor with catalyst pellets
on the feed side." This is the membrane reactor you already solved in part a).
The diffusion rates RA and RB out the sides of the reactor for species A and B are
given, respectively, by RA = kACA and RB = kBCB (here, kA = 1 min-1 and kB = 40
min-1; see problem statement).
2.
Fogler, Problem 5.4. Part a) asks for analysis by the graphical differential
method from the notes. There are more ways than one to do this, but the final
answer needs to come out the same. For part b), perform the regression by fitting
the data to a 6th order polynomial. Then differentiate the polynomial to find your
answer.
3.
Fogler, Problem 5.7, part a).
