After more than a decade on the Romanian market, the
French supermarket chain Interex will close all 12 of its
stores in the region by Nov. 15, according to that daily
Ziarul Financiar.
The company has already canceled some of its supply
orders and plans to sell off its Romanian stocks.
The financial crisis had a huge impact on the French chain,
with revenue steadily decreasing over the last four years to
€16m.
Interex
is
owned
by
Groupement
des
Mousquetaires-Intermarche. It opened its first store in
Romania in 2002 in the city of Ploieşti. Interex also has
stores in Giurgiu, Focşani, Târgu Jiu, Satu Mare, Râmnicu
Vâlcea, Târgovişte, Constanţa, Sibiu, Vaslui, Drobeta Turnu
Severin and Bârlad.
Interex is the second largest foreign retailer to leave the
Romanian market in the last 12 months. Last year,
G'Market sold its five regional stores to Carrefour and Mega
Image.
