Business Education Syllabus for 2012-13 Dear Students and Parents, Welcome back to MOT Charter School! My name is Mrs. Mooney; I will be teaching the eighth grade Business Education class this year. Please carefully review the classroom policies and procedures below as they will maximize your success in this class. Once you and your parents have reviewed the information, please sign this copy and return it to me. The signed copy will be kept in your student notebook for reference throughout the school year. Additional copies are available on Classnotes on the MOT Charter website. Academic Expectations I expect all students to give their best effort at all times. Students MUST be prepared for each class meeting. Being prepared includes items such as having their agenda book, binder, a pen/pencil with them at the start of class and a flash drive or Google Docs. Guidelines for success are included below. Attendance Classes will begin promptly each day when the bell rings. Plan your schedule so you arrive on time to each and every class, as important information will be discussed at the start of class. Attendance will be taken. If you are absent due to illness, family emergency, a religious holiday, it is your responsibility to notify the school and to contact me for make-up work. From the MOT Handbook: If a student misses work due to an excused absence, the student will have additional time equal to the number of days missed to complete assignments missed or due during the absence. Work may be completed prior to the absence. If the student misses a test on the day of absence, the student will take the test on the day the student returns. It is your job to catch up on missed lessons, worksheets or project instructions. Please make note that the time frame is measured in days, not Related Arts cycles. For example: you have Business Ed on A and B days; you are absent for a test on B day, you must make up the test the day your return . . . not the next A day! Class assignments/materials will be posted on the Business Ed section of the MOT website when copyright laws permit. If you are absent, I strongly advise that you send me an email: I will then make out a recess pass for you to meet with me to discuss the material missed. Missed work will not be discussed during class time. We have a great deal of material to cover and we work at a brisk pace. Classroom Goals By the end of this school year, you will be able to: Utilize systems and technology that record, analyze, interpret and communicate financial data Utilize basic management concepts to understand business organizations Explore basic financial concepts and how they apply to the success or failure of a business Explore your personal strengths and interests to find a selection of appropriate careers and plan an educational path leading to the careers.
