BOWLING STUDY GUIDE 5th Grade A FRAME is two tries to knock down the pins. It is a STRIKE when you knock down all of the pins on the first roll. A STRIKE is worth 10 points plus your next TWO ROLLS. It is called a SPARE when you knock down all of the pins in two rolls. A SPARE is worth 10 points plus your next ONE ROLL. The HEAD PIN is pin # 1. You should roll the ball in the POCKET in order to bowl a strike. If you hit the head pin in the middle you will probably end up with a SPLIT. A SLEEPER is a pin that is directly behind another pin. An OPEN FRAME is a frame without a strike or spare. It is called a TURKEY when you bowl three strikes in a row. A bowler must roll 12 strikes to bowl a PERFECT GAME. A PERFECT SCORE in bowling is 300 points. A bowler STRIKES OUT when they make 3 strikes in a row in the 10th Frame. In class, we learned to RELEASE the bowling ball with our palm facing toward the pins. To have a good APPROACH: you should release the ball with your opposite foot forward, keep your wrist firm, and follow through towards the pins. 7 PIN NUMBERS: 8 4 9 5 2 6 3 1 KNOW AND UNDERSTAND HOW TO KEEP SCORE.
