Sports Specialty Council – Emergency Medical Response (EMR) Certification Requirements of Training **Training must result in certification by a recognized professional agency in both CPR at a Health Care Provider or Professional Rescuer level (including AED) and a Professional level of Acute Injury Management. Courses must include both didactic and laboratory / practical examination components. An outline of required components is as follows: 1. CPR for Health Professional / Professional Rescuer a. Respiratory Emergency Management i. Rescue breathing ii. Rescue oxygen administration iii. Asthma management iv. Epi-pen administration b. Cardiac Emergency Management i. CPR – Adult / Child / Infant 1. One-man 2. Two-man ii. AED – Adult / Child / Infant 2. Acute Injury Management at a Professional level a. Primary Assessment b. Secondary Assessment c. Traumatic Emergency Management i. Fracture management 1. Extremity 2. Spine a. Helmeted athlete b. Non-helmeted individual 3. Head/face skull ii. Head / face injuries 1. Dental 2. Eye d. Medical Emergency Management i. Cardiac emergency ii. Head Injury 1. MBTI 2. TBI iii. Bleeding iv. Shock v. Integumentary vi. Diabetic episodes vii. Behaviorial e. Environmental Emergency i. Heat injury ii. Cold injury iii. Severe weather Courses that have included these minimal standards***: 1. American Red Cross – Emergency Medical Response 2. Wilderness Emergency Medical Training (EMT) 3. Wilderness First Responder ***Additional courses could qualify provided they satisfy the above requirements and are approved in advance by the sports specialty council.
