Aquatic Programs: Descriptions
Training in water is ideal for muscle toning, is soothing
and increases stamina, strength, flexibility and endurance. It is ranked as one of the best forms of exercise
for aerobic and resistance training.
The indoor pools at the Côte Saint-Luc Aquatic and Community Centre and the Parkhaven Outdoor Pool are the
ideal places to swim as part of a team sport, a fitness
class, or simply on your own.
The summer session is from June 23 to August 19, 2012.
This Summer Aquatics Guide lists the programs we offer.
There are programs for all ages and all skill levels.
Not sure about which aquatics program is right for you?
Contact the Parks and Recreation Department weekdays
between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm at 514-485-6806. Or if you
are ready to hop in, drop by the office at 7500 Mackle
Rd. to register for a program or buy a CSL Fun Card.
Fitness Classes
Fitness classes are for people of any age who want to exercise in the low-impact environment of the swimming pool.
Aquafitness and Aqua Cycle
Mix and match classes in Shallow Water Aquafitness, Deep
Water Aquafitness or Aqua Cycle. The Aquafitness classes will
increase your aerobic capacity and muscle strength. Aqua
Cycle is done on a stationary bike submerged in water. The
workout can be adapted to all levels. Please arrive at least
five minutes before class to set up your bike. Aquatic shoes
and shorts are required.
Scuba Diving
Learn to Scuba dive in safety and comfort at our pool. The
course is PADI certified (Professional Association of Diving
Instructors), which will give you open water certification.
To register, contact Total Diving at totaldiving.com/scuba/
tnt.html or call 514-482-1890 or 1-888 482-1890.
Lifeguard Training
Côte Saint-Luc offers all the courses required to become a
certified lifeguard.
Lifeguard in Training
Learn from and assist a certified lifesaving instructor in all
operations of the Parkhaven Outdoor Pool. The Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross courses are included in this program.
You must be 13 years of age or older.
Standard First Aid
Learn how to provide specific treatment to immobilize an injury while waiting for emergency services, and recognize abnormal signs and symptoms early to apply treatment.
National Lifeguard
Develop the fundamental skills, knowledge and values found
in the core curriculum. This training enhances your ability to
conduct proper oversight of a swimming pool. It allows you
to manage a swimming pool or private facility (e.g., gym) as a
lifeguard. You must be 16 years of age or older and must have
completed the Bronze Medallion, Bronze Cross and Standard
First Aid courses.
Swimming Lessons
Côte Saint-Luc offers swimming classes for children aged 4
months to 16 years at all skills levels.
Pre-School Swimming Lessons
Certified by the Red Cross, the Pre-School Swimming Lessons
are for children aged 4 months to 5 years. Children enter at
one of eight levels based on age and then progress based
on either age or ability. Eight levels increase opportunity for
parents and their children to take swimming and water safety
lessons at an earlier age.
Swim School
Certified by the Red Cross, children aged 6 years to 16 years
old swimming and water safety skills are taught in the water
so that kids are always active. This approach promotes success and encourages lifelong fitness. A focus on individual
achievement creates a cycle of success geared to all kids.

Aquatic Programs Descriptions (cont.)
Swim Teams
Côte Saint-Luc swim teams are gaining a reputation for excellence. Motivated swimmers are attracted to the indoor and
outdoor pools, superior coaching, and the city’s commitment
to aquatics.
Note: This guide lists summer swim team information. For more
information on the year-round swim teams, see the upcoming Fall
and Winter guidebook.
Swim Team
The Côte Saint-Luc Sharks summer swim team competes
against other pools of the North Shore Aquatics Association
(NSAA). Last year the Sharks were Section C champions of the
NAA. This year the Sharks are competing in Section B, which
is a more challenging division. The team welcomes swimmers
of all ages, provided they can swim a 25-metre lap.
Masters Team
The Masters Team is for swimmers aged 18 and older who
want to improve their swimming strokes, skills or general
fitness. Our coaches can help novice swimmers, who want
to improve their water competency and fitness, and experienced swimmers, too.
Synchronized Swimming
Younger participants will learn the fundamentals of rhythm
and dance in the water.
The focus will then change to competition and creating routines that are vibrant and innovative. Swimmers can take
part in local competitions and can set their sights high for
individual and team pursuits. For individuals aged 7 to 16.
Water Polo
Players will develop ball-control skills, swimming endurance,
and learn game strategy. The programs are led by qualified
national-level coaches whose main goals are player development and team success. Players will compete once a week
against local teams. For individuals aged 7 to 16.
