 UCSD’s Pharmacological Chemistry program is a good choice for those interested in a program
that provides a strong background in chemistry and includes most courses required by California
pharmacy schools. The major is intended primarily to prepare students for pharmacy school.
o This program allows students to earn a Bachelor’s degree while fulfilling pre-requisites
for entering a Pharm. D. program. This gives students career flexibility. If a student
decides to pursue a related career he or she has the option to not enter a Pharm. D.
program and instead enter the work force or earn a graduate degree.
o Some classes in the major include biology, calculus, physics, and organic chemistry.
o UCSD is ranked as one of the best schools for pharmacological sciences and also has a
Pharm. D. program in its UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.
