THE DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY AND BIOCHEMISTRY at UC San Diego

faculty, staff and student body and invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in
environmental chemistry focusing on areas such as atmospheric chemistry, climate change,
air pollution, miniaturized instrumentation and sensors, human health, ocean-atmosphere
interactions, and interfacial environmental processes. This position will contribute to a major
cross-campus initiative in Understanding and Protecting the Planet that is catalyzing interactions
between faculty in physical sciences, social sciences, engineering, health sciences, and Scripps
Institution of Oceanography to address large scale environmental challenges. These efforts have
already resulted in two cross-campus Centers
(http://caice.ucsd.edu andhttps://scripps.ucsd.edu/news/scripps-oceanography-supportersgive-5-million-create-climate-center). Candidates must have a Ph.D. with a strong record of
research accomplishment as well as submit an innovative interdisciplinary research plan. The
successful candidate will be expected to teach in general and traditional areas of chemistry as
well as environmental and atmospheric chemistry courses at both the graduate and
undergraduate levels.
Preferred candidates will have the potential for leadership in areas contributing to diversity,
equity, and inclusion and will have a desire to play a future role in helping to shape and expand
the University’s diversity initiatives (http://diversity.ucsd.edu/). We especially welcome
candidates who have experience with and wish to contribute to programs that increase the
access and success of underrepresented students and faculty in the sciences. The successful
candidate will be judged on research and teaching accomplishments, as well as on potential
and/or demonstrated leadership in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scale.
