Summer Study Project: English Literature A level 2015 Shakespeare’s Othello.
For your summer study project, you are required to produce a written portfolio on
aspects of Shakespeare’s Othello.
Task One:
Research the following:
The role of women in Shakespeare’s era.
Shakespearean tragedy: key features and the concept of the fatal flaw.
Critical opinion of Othello: find two quotations on Othello from the following
critics: A.C Bradley, S.T. Coleridge and W.R Turnbull.
This information will form part of your A level folder: the format is to be A4 typed
notes and visual images. Be imaginative!

Task Two:
Consider Jealousy.
Othello’s fatal flaw is jealousy. What is your own definition of jealousy? Demonstrate
modern day examples of jealousy. How would this differ in Shakespeare’s day? Is it
ever acceptable to use violence or murder because of jealousy?
Word Count: 500 words.
