EXAMINATIONS: Examinations are administered using the myitlab On-line Internet Based Testing System.
Students are reminded of the College’s policies relative to working independently (see College Catalogue) and are
required to complete all Lab Assignments, Examinations and other projects individually, except for assignments
specifically designated as group projects.
THERE IS NO FINAL EXAMINATION IN THIS COURSE.
ATTENDANCE POLICY: Each student is required to attend all class sessions. The Student Services Office
(617.228.2000) should be notified if a student would be absent for an extended period of time. See the Student
Handbook for more details.
TEACHING PROCEDURES: Class lectures on the assigned material will be followed by computer lab time to be
used for drill & practice exams, group project work and WPA’s. However, much of the work for this course is to be
done outside of class time and students are urged to plan accordingly. The amount of out of class time required to
complete the course will vary based on individual students’ skill sets, BUT IN GENERAL STUDENTS SHOULD
PLAN TO SPEND SIX (6) TO NINE (9) HOURS PER WEEK outside of regularly scheduled classes to complete
this course successfully.
WORK FORCE PREPARTION ACTIVITIES (WPA): This course includes a substantial component on so called
“Employability or Soft Skills”. The ability to work effectively as part of a team, creatively solve problems, provide
excellent customer service, excellent communications capability (oral & written), and the ability to analyze,
prioritize, evaluate and work with minimal supervision are traits highly valued by all employers. Employees with
these skills are highly sought after by organizations, large and small, public & private.
In fact most employers value these employability skills higher than the technical skills taught in this course.
To reinforce these skills this course contains not only “Content-Based” Assessments (Step-by Step), but also
“Outcomes-Based” Assessments (Open-ended Projects) as well as a “Group Running Case” that runs through all
OFFICE Programs. Each Outcomes-Based Assessment has a Rubric that helps guide students in the Group/Team in
assessing the quality of their collective work.
“Professional Quality” As Specified in The Outcomes Rubric Earns Full Credit For Each Group Assignment.
6
COURSE GROUP/TEAM WORK: Each class participant will join a team of from 4-5 students to complete certain
assignments in the course. At a minimum the “Group Running Case” will be completed by all teams along with certain
other Work Force Preparation Activities (WPA’s).
Participation points earned by each member of the Group/Team will be at the discretion of the course instructor.
Each Group will make two (2) presentations of their collaborative work on the Group Running Case Assignments.
COMPUTER LAB TIME: The College’s Computer Lab is open seven (7) days per week according to the posted
