DATASHEET: INTELLIGENT PRODUCTION SYSTEM (IPS) The intelligent pull production technique that pushes efficiencies higher. Product: Our Intelligent Process System (IPS) product is typically used in just-in-time manufacturing processes to order production inputs and schedule manufacturing at the time a customer places an order. By basing purchase orders and manufacturing schedules on actual, rather than anticipated, orders, pullthrough production helps control inventory costs. Pull-through production also facilitates product customization. Since products are made as they are ordered, it may be possible to cost-effectively tailor an order to a customer's specific needs, instead of only offering a generic product. Commitment: work our way backwards throughout the processes. Each process will be honed to play in tune with the overall production orchestra, and through visual controls and bottleneck management it will be seen that more production is possible with less resources all the while meeting the market demands. Finally the process is formalised and dovetailed into the existing company management systems, ensuring that inspection, maintenance and other necessary functions are optimised to the new production levels. Training: Our implementation methodology includes full training for management and staff to ensure that the process thrives irrespective of new products and processes that will inevitably be introduced in the future. Uses: The IPS requires complete buy-in from the workforce and the production management. Once implemented the success and advantages of the IPS are fully realised when the input functions such as purchasing and stores and production facilities work in harmony with the output functions, the likes of finished goods and despatch. The operators will be taught the key visual signals that allows product to move smoothly and efficiently throughout the various processes, even attending to bottlenecks that strangle throughput. Implementation: The IPS can be used in jobbing shops, batch and mass manufacturing environments where there is a need to reduce inventory and improve outgoing quality levels. Benefits: Using pull-through production means that companies are less likely to purchase excess inventory, are able to reduce their inventory storage costs, and are able to reduce the opportunity costs of tying up in inventory money that could be used elsewhere. In short the Intelligent Process System: Our implementation methodology includes full training for management and staff to ensure that the process thrives irrespective of new products and processes that will inevitably be introduced in the future. We will start at the ‘business end’ of the process, finished goods and despatch to ensure that adequate stocks are held to meet customers’ immediate requirements, and 1. Standardizes the amount of inventory in the production process. 2. Uses visual controls to activate the replenishment process. 3. Reduces batch or lot sizes. 4. Quickly reveals quality problems before excessive scrap is produced. SysPrac (Pty) Ltd 011 425 6352 www.sysprac.co.za
