This is available on-line through many of the same providers. This is highly recommended. z The Process in California z z z z z You are required to compete 52 hours of pre-licensing education classes before you can apply for a California Insurance License. Several schools are available in each major city. Onsite training is available for groups of +20 students. Cost average is $220 per student. Once the 52 Hour Class is complete a certification of completion is issued. Log on to the California Dept. of Insurance (CDI) website www.insurance.ca.gov , complete an application and submit fees of $185.00 for the state license via MC/VISA. You are then allowed through the web site to schedule an exam at the time and location of your choice. The day of your test, bring the certification of completion to the testing site along with a check for $76 for the finger printing fee. After passing the test with a score of +70% the testing site forwards all paperwork (cert. and finger prints) to Sacramento for final processing. Approximately two weeks after passing the test, the CDI website will list you as a licensed agent and shortly after the license will be sent to the rep from the California Department of Insurance.
