The Resident Agent Examination for Title Insurance
consists of 60 to 65 multiple choice questions
covering topics and regulations set forth on the
Michigan Title Insurance Content Outline.
The Content Outline indicates the approximate
number of questions that will appear on the
examination for each general topic. It also provides
references for reviewing specific topics. This Study
Guide is intended to supplement the references
noted on the outline.
You must get 73% correct to pass.

The Appendix includes sample policy forms, Insurance Department
Bulletin examples; additional information regarding land descriptions,
relevant Land Title Standards and recording statutes, regulatory
environment information.
The Candidate Handbook published by the State of Michigan contains
information regarding insurance licensing and registering for the licensing
examination. Candidate Handbooks and Applications for a resident agent
license can be obtained contacting PSI (the State’s 3rd Party Provider for
testing potential licensee’s) – information is on the state’s website for
OFIS – under insurance licensing.

When you are ready to take the exam go to:
http://www.psiexams.com to schedule for the exam.
You will want to schedule for Title Insurance Producer/Solicitor Series 16-77
When you schedule your appointment, you should be prepared to provide any of the following information:

The name used to schedule your appointment must exactly match the name shown on your ID
At a minimum, the identification must be a valid, government-issued ID that shows your name in the
English alphabet, your signature, your photograph.

Your Social Security, or Licensing Authority/Sponsor issued I.D. Number
Contact phone numbers

If there is an unexpected event, they will use these numbers to contact you

• The examination fee is $40.00

(after the 60 minutes) if You passed or failed.
You will not be told your score if you Passed… just that you Passed.
The Testing Center will provide you your report.
This report is important… keep it.

In a few days you will receive your
State of Michigan License - Title Insurance Producer
Once your License is received –




You should make a copy for your Human Resources file
Make a copy for your Title Agents’ - ALTA Best Practices binder
Work with your Title Agency to be appointed to all current Underwriters of the Title Agency
Do this by emailing the appropriate contact at each Underwriter.
Your Title Agency should fill out DFIS’s form
“Insurance Business Entity Affiliate Disclosure” - form (FIS 0200).
All Licensed Employees that are Licensed, MUST be affiliated under the Agency license
