Bridge Asset Management - May 31 - June 1, 2007
Description
Benefits to Participants
Bridges are a critical and vital link in transportation infrastructure. Two
major cohorts of bridges, those built before WW2 and those in the three
decades thereafter are rapidly reaching the end of their service life and
need replacement or are in need of significant rehabilitation. Current
levels of infrastructure funding are inadequate to cope with the needs.
Effective bridge asset management practises are required to obtain the
best value from limited resources. This course will provide participants
guidance to meaningfully quantify their bridge infrastructure deficit and
prioritize bridge needs.
This course will be of interest to:
• Public Works Officials
• Bridge Engineers
• Bridge Inspectors
• Bridge Maintenance Superintendents
• Engineering firms with civil/structural engineers
• Construction firms who bid on bridge tenders issued by federal
and provincial governments (Transportation Public Works)
Objectives
The objectives of this course are to:
• Better understand the Parameters that impact the Life Cycle Cost of
bridge ownership.
• Appreciate the Value of a bridge and how this Value should influence
Investment in the bridge.
• Learn how to detect & screen Vulnerable Bridges
• Identify best Bridge Asset Management practises
• Critically examine Bridge Asset Management tools
