Susan Mellor, site supervisor at Moor Park Health Centre in
Blackpool, has been singled out for her exceptional performance in improving the cleaning standards on the site.
In Depth Managed Services, provides contract cleaning services at Moor Park Health
Centre, a primary care centre offering modern health services in the community.
A recent independent quality audit by Blackpool PCT praised the centre’s cleaning standards, particularly commending Susan for her work. In Depth Managed
Services presented Susan with a
Star Award for her contribution to the successful audit.
In Depth Managed Services industrial team James Nugent,
Ryan McKinlay and Chris
Kiernan have been awarded the Star Award for helping a motorist who had been involved a car accident on the
M6 slip road at Winwick.
“Three employees from your company stopped to assist me with the drunk driver who had driven into the back of my car and stayed with me until the police arrived. I cannot give praise enough for their help.”
Paul Hickson wrote a letter to
In Depth Managed Services to commend the team.
Chris blocked the driver’s car so he couldn’t drive off, James grabbed his keys out of the ignition and they stayed with the motorist until the police arrived.
Bill Dunne, Divisional Director of In Depth Managed Services explains the importance of professional washroom hygiene standards.
If companies were to calculate the number of days’ work lost through coughs, colds, flu, tummy bugs, E.coli and viruses, and include the cost in their annual reports, chief executives and shareholders would demand immediate action.
Staff sick leave and paying temporary replacements all costs industry billions of pounds each year. In 2010-11, 26.4million working days were lost through staff sickness, according to the
Health and Safety Executive.
Yet many illnesses and viruses are easily preventable through good washroom hygiene. The washroom is the most fertile breeding ground for bacteria – and therefore where illnesses are picked up.
Confidence
Washroom standards also have an impact on an organisation’s image. Organisations owe a duty of care to employees and customers, who feel happier if their surroundings are hygienic.
That, in turn, has knock-on effects on the employer’s reputation.
Well-kept facilities are a symbol of a caring employer.
We all carry bacteria on our skin but harmful ones multiply after we use the toilet, sneeze or blow our noses. If the germs are not cleaned off, we transmit them to surfaces we touch. Disease and infection will soon follow.
Signs should encourage everyone to wash hands after using the toilet and before preparing food.
But keeping washrooms hygienic is equally important. Cleaning of the facilities should be thorough and regular and carried out by operatives specially trained in checking for potential risks and preventing contamination.
As a specialist in cleaning and soft services, our operatives undergo regular training in new hygiene techniques, and work is rigorously quality-controlled.
It’s that time of year when everyone seems to be coughing and sneezing.
Follow these tips to avoid spreading illness this winter:
✓ Wash your hands often – with warm water and soap
✗ Avoid touching your face
(eyes, nose and mouth are entry ports for viruses)
✓ Cover your mouth with a tissue when coughing or sneezing – dispose of tissue and wash your hands
✗ Don’t share – wipe down shared equipment such as phones and keyboards
✓ Get enough sleep and keep stress at bay
Darran Yates, Corporate
Social Responsibility Director for In Depth Managed
Services, raised £500 in one week for the charity
Christie’s by completing a
65-mile bike ride between
Manchester and Blackpool earlier this year. Darran, 43, and his son, Jordan, 18, did the trip together. “We only decided to take part a week before so not a lot of time to get any training in.” he says.
Darran went on to complete the Manchester 100-mile bicycle ride on his own in
September as a personal challenge which proved to be much harder. “My next challenge is to do the
Three Peaks Challenge in 48 hours next year,” he says –
Good luck Darran!
Allow more time for your journey to work as the likelihood of traffic disruptions are greater this time of year.
If you are using your own vehicle ensure it is “ready” for winter and do regular checks – have a look at the AA’s flower power list of basic car checks. www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/breakdown_advice/flower-power.html
Having a mobile phone is useful to let loved ones know when you’re late, however don’t call or text while driving because it distracts you and could cause an accident.
In the dark, cold months we need to look after our bones and muscles to prevent injury. It’s well worth doing some simple warming up exercises and stretches before we set off every day. Check out this link for some basic warm-up exercises. www.netfit.co.uk/stretching.htm
There’s no such thing as a rain free period in the UK, but in these months there will be even more of the wet stuff, so it is crucial to use the wet floor or work-in-progress signs at the access and egress points as you undertake your cleaning tasks as the likelihood of a person crossing your area of work with wet feet from outside is greater.
Kay Timms, who has been with the company for four years, has been appointed Service
