GPA Requirements Minimum 2.0 for ALL of the following:  Overall GPA  CSULB GPA  Cumulative Major/Minor GPA Unit Requirements 120 Overall units 40 Upper Division units 30 CSULB units 24 Upper Division CSULB units Class Unit Levels 0‐29 units = Freshmen 30‐59 units = Sophomore 60‐89 units = Junior/Upper Division Standing 90+ units = Senior Graduate Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR) Attempt the Writing Proficiency Exam (WPE) before 50 units. Transfer students must take the WPE during their first semester. Additional Information  13 units from the major department can double count with GE requirements. Courses in bold indicate GE requirements. Visit the GE website for course selection: csulb.edu/ge.  All students entering journalism skills courses must be familiar with at least one established word‐processing program at the level of at least 40 words per minute.  Students interested in pursuing the Single‐Subject Credential in English/Journalism should consult the teaching credential advisor in the Department of English.  Transfer students must complete at least 50 percent of their upper division Journalism units at CSULB.  By default, students are placed in the Journalism program but may also choose to pursue a Specialization in Public Relations. Students can contact the department advisor to officially declare the specialization.
