Description: In this course, students will apply problem-solving skills to real-life situations through word processing, spreadsheets,
databases, and multimedia presentations, and integrated software activities. Students will work individually and in groups to explore
computer concepts, operating systems, networks, telecommunications and emerging technologies. This course dual enrolls with Blue
Ridge Community College ITE 119 and upon successful completion of this course; a student will earn 1 weighted credit and final course
grade from the high school as well as three transferable credits and a final course grade from BRCC. These two grades may differ
because the high school final grade is a combination of the BRCC final grade (80%) and the high school curriculum (20%).

Textbooks/Materials: Microsoft® Office: Introductory Concepts and Techniques; Microsoft® Office: Advanced Concepts and
Techniques; 100% Information Literacy Success; Binder or Folder
Technology: Networked Windows computers; Microsoft® Office 2013; Microsoft® Expression Web; Laser printers; scanner; cameras;
SAM 20103 Assessment and Training V1.0 Instant Access Code, 1st Edition. This activation code will need to be purchased from

Expectations of Students: Students are expected to arrive on time and be in class each day. Students will use good manners and
exhibit proper classroom behavior. A good attitude and work ethic is necessary as well as the willingness to learn and the ability to
read and follow directions. Students are to be respectful of both the teacher and other students at all times. Headphones, iPods and
other listening devices are not allowed in the classroom. All rules and regulations stated in the school handbook will automatically
be in effect in the class.
Grading: The high school curriculum portion of the grade will be calculated using total points and Augusta County’s grading scale.
Information about the BRCC portion of the grade is provided on the attached letter.
Quality Point Values: The quality-point Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, and Governor’s School courses are weighted by
applying an additional 1.0 quality point to the quality-point value assigned to the final grade (an exception occurs if a grade of F is
assigned). As an example, a final grade of “A+” in an Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment or Governor’s School course receives
5.3333 quality-points for purposes of calculating grade point average (GPA), and Honor Roll determination.

through Blue Ridge Community College.
Tuition will be paid with a check made payable to the high school. Upon successful completion of this course,
I understand that my child will earn three credits at BRCC in ITE 115 and one high school credit in Computer
Information Systems.
I give permission for the BRCC instructor to discuss my grade with my parent and/or my high school CIS
teacher.
