Too many of today’s companies are data-rich and information-poor. How can they use their
big data to make big decisions? Business analytics (BA) and business intelligence (BI) offer a
solution. BA and BI empower the organization and fuel effective decision making by using
statistical methods to mine company data and ascertain vital information. This growing
discipline requires specialized training. To address this need we have developed a new emphasis
for the MSIS program. Business Analytics concentrates on technologies and skills needed to
analyze large data sets to gain insights which help improve business decisions and planning.
